  • Fès Medina

    August 26, 2024 in Morocco ⋅ ☀️ 36 °C

More exploring around our accommodation. Basically the Medina runs from the top of the hill to the bottom. Two main streets run roughly parallel with each other with a myriad of interlacing streets and dead ends. We have tried a couple of Tangine dishes, meat and chicken. Really filling and tasty.Read more

  • Walking Tour

    August 27, 2024 in Morocco ⋅ ☀️ 36 °C

Today we start with the traditional breakfast served in our Riad. Fried egg, local breads, jam and olives. Black coffee and tea also provided. We then head off to our walking tour with Mohammed. Our tour takes in one of the oldest University’s in the world, an ancient clock that no one now knows how to fix, brass and copper shop, and a rug shop with rugs in the Berber style for $4,000. (On special) 🙂Read more

  • Outside the Gate

    August 28, 2024 in Morocco ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

We ventured outside the Medina Blue Gate to view the outer ramparts of the city. Back through another entrance and straight into the busy streets of the lower Medina.

  • Salè

    September 1, 2024 in Morocco ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Salè. Just over the river to Rabat, Morocco’s capital. We are staying in a Riad within the Medina. Very much different to Fès. Hardly any sit down eateries. A few coffee shops and local market are all that is within the wall. All of the action is on the outside. Took a stroll along the beach and river. Again, very little in the way of cafés and restaurants. The few that are there are pricey. We hope to find more as we settle in for the week. 🙏Read more

  • The Medina

    September 2, 2024 in Morocco ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

We are getting to know this Medina, and where to go for coffee, lunch and dinner. Lunch can be a simple but tasty meal of flat round bread, stuffed with a choice of fish, potatoes, tomato and onion, eggplant, eggs etc. We also found Hassan Roast Chicken. Delicious.Read more

  • Road to Marrakech

    September 6, 2024 in Morocco ⋅ ☀️ 38 °C

It’s not a Bing Crosby Bob Hope film, but it should be. Out of our Riad, grabbed a taxi straight away, and to Salè train station with 90 minutes to spare. 😳. One thing I have noticed is the amount of gum trees along the rail corridors. This landscape in many ways looks identical to the dry Australian outback.

From the train, we catch a glimpse of the Zaha Hadid National Theatre and the still under construction Mohammed VI Tower before the landscape changes heading inland: https://www.tiktok.com/@explore.with.lynne/vide…

  • In and around

    September 8, 2024 in Morocco ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Marrakech and its surrounds are quite flat. I hope we get a chance to see the Atlas Mountains. At the moment the sky is hazy and the view is obscured.

  • Atlas Mountains

    September 10, 2024 in Morocco ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Up early and up to the top deck of our hotel. Rewarded with the view of the Atlas Mountains. Good thing about Marrakech is that you get a 360 degree view of Marrakech as there are no tall buildings, except the odd minaret.Read more

  • Medina Night Market

    September 12, 2024 in Morocco ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

At dusk we head to the Medina. Lynne is doing a tour where she gets her hand Henna’d. When this is finished (only cost about $7. ), we take a look at the main square. Lots going on with monkeys and snakes. We didn’t engage as even looking at them gets their handler asking for money.

See the full henna art experience as well as the walk through the Medina here: https://www.youtube.com/live/uJOq8dJ-qdY?si=x8h…

  • Tangier

    September 13, 2024 in Morocco ⋅ 🌬 27 °C

We left Marrakech by plane. Didn’t really want to spend 6.5 hours on a semi air conditioned train. And the cost wasn’t that different. Left at 8.45pm and arrived 50 minutes later. Bit of an ordeal getting to the hotel. Bus from airport, then taxi who didn’t know the way, then walk up the hill into the Medina. 🙄. Anyway, hotel is basic and clean, and right in the middle of the action.Read more

  • The Kasbah

    September 15, 2024 in Morocco ⋅ 🌬 26 °C

Up the winding lanes to the Kasbah. Every turn an amazing experience. Outside of Fez, this Kasbah is fantastic. The drop in temperature does help as the Atlantic sea breezes sweep the city.

  • Goodbye Morocco

    September 17, 2024 in Morocco ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Well. What an experience! We got to see cities in the hills, desert and on the coast. Such a culture we’ve not seen before. The ferry to Spain only takes 50 minutes. A twin hull jet boat that can handle some cars and bikes. Quite amazing the closeness of these 2 continents.Read more

  • Spain

    September 18, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Disembarked the ferry at Tarifa and straight to a coffee shop for the free wifi. Got our sims sorted then off to the bus stop for the bus to Algeciras. Luckily perfect timing as the bus arrived straight away. 30 minutes later we’re in Algeciras. Taxi to the hotel. And what a hotel. Built in 1903 it has seen its fair share of people, including Franklin D Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Orson Wells. And the cost only $130. AUD including stupendous buffet breakfast.Read more

  • Seville

    September 19, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

We took a ride share from Algeciras to Seville. About 1.5 hours. Found our little boutique hotel and settled in. Really quite nice and the residence of a bygone flamenco guitarist. Our plan was to head out after siesta time and visit the cathedral. Quite an impressive church. Grabbed a spot at the bar opposite and enjoyed conversation and drinks with fellow travellers.Read more

  • Road to Constantina

    September 20, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Today we picked up our rental car (we wanted a Fiat 500) ☹️ and headed to a small town called Constantina. About 7000 inhabitants. However, we stopped along the way at a small town Cantillana for lunch. And ended slap bang in the towns main square where a festival was well and truly underway. A Festival of motorbikes revving the bejesus out of their engines and doing scorching laps through the town. 😳Read more

  • The Town

    September 21, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

A nice little town with many little narrow cobblestone streets and pathways. Nice to walk, but stressful driving through! Walking around you find little shops you never knew existed, even when you have walked by several times. It seems shops generally open at 8.00am and close at 2pm. Then reopen at 5pm. However some bars are open through siesta times. We have tried a few Tapas meals at the bar, at around 3.5euros. One particular Tapas was the beef cheeks. Delicious.Read more
