• こんにちわ!

    February 13, 2025 in Japan ⋅ 🌬 7 °C

We landed at Narita (NRT) at 4:30 PM JPT. It felt like home walking off the plane. I’ve been waiting over a year to return to my happy place. When we walked out, I turned to Justin and said, “Doesn’t this feel like home?” It really does. Japan is special to me. It has been since I was 12 years old when we hosted our first Japanese student, Natsuki, followed by Chiaki, and then my turn, with my exchange to Anpachi, Japan at 14. As a nomad at heart, I don’t often get to claim the word home—but here, it feels right.

Immigration was a long line, but customs was a breeze. It feels so good to understand much more Japanese this time! I can glance at signs and—while I may not know them perfectly—I can guess their meaning. Justin is probably going to get annoyed with me pointing out every kanji I recognize. “Look! I know that one!” (Sorry, Justin, but I can’t help myself. lol)

At the airport, we purchased our Suica card for city transit—one of the best travel essentials! Now we’re all set for smooth trips around Japan.

And there it was—my first vending machine. Hot green tea in a bottle. Holding it felt like the coziest, safest hug. It might sound ridiculous, but it’s a feeling I’ve missed deeply. Ocha has my back. And tonight? Heated toilet seats await. Ahhhhh, it’s the little luxuries that make life magical.

Now, we’re on the Narita Express (N’EX) heading into Tokyo—about 50 minutes to Tokyo Station. From there, just one stop north to our beloved Kanda Station. Our hotel awaits… and so does 7-Eleven.

    First 7-Eleven Haul Goals:
    ☑️ Chocolate Bun
