Just a short walk away was Dotonbori, Osaka’s famous food and entertainment district, where the streets are loud, the signs are huge, and the energy is electric. If Tokyo feels futuristic, Osaka feels like a festival that never ends.

One of the coolest things about Dotonbori? The restaurants don’t just have signs—they have massive, 3D, in-your-face displays. Walking down the street, you’ll see things such as giant mechanical crabs moving their claws, a massive pufferfish lantern floating, a towering plate of gyoza with chopsticks and one or more giant takoyaki octopus staring down at you as you decide whether or not to get a snack (you should).

It’s bright, chaotic, and a little overwhelming—but in the best way possible. Whether you’re here for the food, the nightlife, or just to soak up the neon madness, Dotonbori is Osaka at its most alive.
