Today was an early morning, Michael picked up Jacques and I and we headed for France 🇫🇷
📍 Natzweiler-Struthof was our first stop. It’s the only Nazi concentration camp on present-day French territory, with original buildings and displays. We spent 3 hours walking around the camp with an audio guide to explain as we moved through, which gave some insight into what life was like at the camp between 1940 until late 1944. Really sad place yet an important part of Europe’s history. Michael was great at translating the French information in the museum. Really informative and humbling experience.
📍 Colmar - a beautiful town in the southeast of France. The old town has cobblestone streets lined with half-timbered medieval and early Renaissance buildings. We fell in love with this town, so charming with amazing food shops and little boutiques.
📍 St Martin’s Church - A stunning gothic style building with huge ceilings and ornate stain glass windows. The church was decorated with exquisite wood carved paintings, this area is famous for them!
📍 Marché Couvert - a small food market with amazing local produce, cheese, meat and flowers. I absolutely love how the French do food so well, I was in my element 🧀
📍 Time for a dinner stop @ La Krutenau. This restaurant was in “Little Venice” which is a beautiful street with a river running through it and gondolas. We had traditional Flamkucchen (French pizza) and I tried the local Riesling, delicious!
📍 Few more stops as we wandered through the streets.
- Maison Alsacienne de Biscuiterie. We sampled their coconut biscuits, these were delicious. Had to get some for Margit
- Gilg patisserie for their renowned lemon tart and macaroons 🍋
- Malker deli where we sampled some cheese and got some salami for Walter and French pie for Jacques
Late drive back home but we had an amazing day exploring with Michael ❤️Read more
