Met some incredible people on that last stretch, including (you guessed it) a German couple, who actually walked the exact paths I'm planning to walk in Slovenia, a Canadian couple, and a couple of 79 & 72 year olds who are walking the entire coast path in one go. So hear me out here, is this the worst idea I've ever had? Yes, easily, but personally I didn't see another option. I'm pitched in Bosahan cove on the beach, and I have checked the tide times so hopefully I can get away with it. The pic blur really reflects my mental exhaustion. That was the most ridiculous day of walking I've ever experienced, I have no idea how (or why) my legs carried me so far, I'm slightly worried I might wake up paralysed or something

Just waiting at the ferry crossing to hitch a ride across Helford river, but it doesn't run until 9:30 am, it's the first of three ferries on route today. Got talking to a charming old chap called Trevor Lee who was sat by the crossing too, turns out he is waiting for the signal to start his section of a relay run across the south west coast path! He said 60 runners are trying to break the record and run the whole path nonstop in 5 days, and his section starts in about ten minutes. Could be a wet one with a thunderstorm due in over night, I'll see how soaked my undies are in the morning. This is a tactical pitch though because I can always go back to Portscatho and find some sort of shelter if things get really bad. It's been a solid day, nothing overly mad, will probably stick out in my memory as that day with all the ferries and where I ate too much at wetherspoons. One note I have to make so far is how good a purchase my solar charger continues to be, I half didn't expect it to actually work but so far I've gone four days on one power bank, recharging it while walking, and it's been pretty reliable.

That was some serious weather last night, but I'm proud of my tent for holding back that much wind and rain. It's never really been exposed to that heavy rainfall before and I sealed the seams myself so good to know that actually worked. I woke up at around 1am and 3am but then slept straight through till 8:30 somehow. Tbh I was just glad I wasn't on a cliff or more exposed so I definitely chose the right spot last night. Just a shame I didn't get a pic of my tent pitched there. Been quite pleasant walking this morning though, very refreshing to have some wind and rain and I'm actually quite enjoying it. If I could make Mevagissey by today then I could be a whole 2 days ahead of where I need to be only in 5 days of walking so I'm pretty relaxed about the distance too.Läs mer

Just met a Swiss person changing their socks on a windy, rainy bench above this village who said they prefer it here to Switzerland (?!??!). The route to Gorran Sands took me to where a herd of cows decided it'd be a great day to just chill on the path, forcing me into something of a stand off. I had no route around as there was a mire of brambles either side of them, so after a healthy amount of time pleading and making as much noise as I could, they eventually wandered up the hill. Too scared to take me on I guess but that's not surprising, probably would've one hit killed them all right? Anyway, you'll just have to imagine that and the reward after another good few kilometres is a pastry and tea in this weird resort town.Läs mer

Mevagissey you were exactly what was needed. Now time to hit the hay

Update: so actually I spent the last two hours waiting in these fields to make sure I didn't camp in one with cows in, but it seems like this farmer was playing with his cows all evening long and they ended up in every field. So I just kept going and had some incredible luck just as it was getting dark by finding a tiny ruined brick building on a grass patch just big enough for a tent in a cove below the fields I was on before. I checked tides and everything and everything should be fine so I'm pretty happy with this find and it's finally time for some well earned rest.
