French Polynesia- Days 2 and 3
Today we docked in Papeete, Tahiti. It rained like crazy the first day the first day we arrived. We forfeited a catamaran ride and hung out on the ship. A long nap and nice salmon dinner with Baked Alaska for dessert was substituted.
The second day, we climbed into a van with another couple from Boston, Carol and Burt, and were guided around the 72 mile perimeter of the island.
We saw beautiful gardens, waterfalls, beaches, and learned a lot about local fruit crops. They grow everything in their yards! Guava, avocados, bread fruit, mangos, coconuts, and lots of other delicious morsels I haven’t heard of before.
As we pulled out of port, the rain came down so hard we couldn’t see the water from our veranda. These islands get over 180 inches of rain annually.
We are out to sea for one day and then anchor outside the reef on Rarotonga, Cook Islands.
