Day 2: Ephesus. Unlike Athens, Ephesus was not built on top of by a modern city. Ephesus was abandoned and left to decay after the bay began to fill with silt and eventually turned into a swamp that bred Malaria. The impressive city has been nearly completely taken over by nature. But as it has slowly been uncovered so that much of the city is still relatively “in tact”.
We visited the theater where Demetrius the silversmith challenged Paul’s preaching against Artemis, stepped into the giant library, and walked the marble road that served as the Main Street of the city.Read more
