It is 265 sea miles from Lorient to Gijon.
We chatted with Annette and Hanna after breakfast.
We arrived in Gijon at 11am.
We took the free shuttle bus into the Marina Fomentin in the old city (about 10km) for our self guided walking tour which we received on leaving the ship.
We viewed the Cider Tree Installation erected in 2003 to encourage recycling and in particular the green Gijon Apple Cider bottles drunk throughout the Asturias region. The sculpture is made of 3200 empty cider bottles collected in one year, equivalent to the annual consumption of 100 families.
Next to Plaza del Marqués and it’s beautiful buildings such as the palace of the Marquis of San Esteban del Mar de Natahoyo (1704) and statue of King Pelayo (Pelagius), the first Monarch of the Kingdom of Asturias.
