Day 73a. Venice, ItalyOctober 16, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C
When in Venice we have a tradition with Julie Lewington and Neil Crossing to eat fresh strawberries by the Grand Canal. This was our priority after breakfast.
Venice, the capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region, is built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. It has no roads, just canals – including the Grand Canal thoroughfare – lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces. The central square, Piazza San Marco, contains St. Mark’s Basilica, which is tiled with Byzantine mosaics, and the Campanile bell tower.
With this longer history you would think they could put in a few more sign posts to let you know how to walk around without getting completely lost. But no. We get lost everytime we move off the main thorough fare. In fact we can even get lost when we are on it. This even when Ron is normally a flaming homing pigeon.Read more
