Then you get the fire department to make the raceway really muddy.

Add on some new friends, music and beer, and you've got yourself a good time.

Black Jack Ketchum

My great grandfather was a Methodist preacher and planted churches in the New Mexico territory before it became a state.

I was thrilled to visit Clayton, New Mexico, to hear stories I remembered from my grandmother.

One of the most memorable is that my grandfather, James Graham Harshaw, officiated at the last hanging in New Mexico. There hadn't been a hanging for a while and the rope wasn't calibrated properly. The result was that, instead of breaking his neck, Black Jack Ketchum lost his head.

My great grandfather is the second on the left who is wearing a long topcoat. The bearded man on the right is the sheriff, who didn't believe Ketchum was guilty and so wouldn't take part.Lue lisää

When my great grandmother was living in Clayton, New Mexico as a preacher's wife, she became fast friends with Gerda Eklund, whose husband owned the Eklund Hotel and saloon.

Gerda Eklund was known as a great beauty and my great grandmother, Myrta, was so inspired by her that she named my grandmother Gerda after her.Lue lisää

Watching the big game with my brother and his wife in Fredericksburg, Texas. I don't think I've watched a football game for 40 years.

Don't mind the hand gesture. That just means "Hook 'em, horns" for the Texas Longhorns. They're playing against the Michigan Wolverines today.

Father-son duo build hundreds of pyramids on a Santa Cruz beach

Hundreds of sand pyramids are being constructed on Cowell Beach in Santa Cruz as part of an art exhibit by Jim Denevan, his son, Brighton and dozens of volunteers ...

The project, simply called "Pyramids," involves the creation of 380 sand pyramids of various sizes, some reaching over six feet tall. The exhibit is a collaborative effort with dozens of volunteers assisting in the construction."
