Riding to Redding

We stopped for lunch and - as so often happens when you travel in the United States - if you take a little time to look around - there is so much more to see.

For instance, the hanging flower baskets. Given the length and fullness of the flowers, I figured they were using a multi-tier planter. Nope. One tier. I've never seen such gorgeous hanging plants.

Then there was the plaque on a fountain next door to the restaurant. It seems the fountain was built in the early 1930s by Joseph Bertacco for the town of McLeod River Co. The plaque was donated by his son Frank "Chief" Bertacco and grand kids. Keeping the family history alive.

The eyecatching sculpture brought attention to the slice of Douglas fir tree, which, according to its 230 rings, the tree was a seedling in 1776.

And finally, an odd brick tower covered in ivy with a safe built into it. No name. No more information than that. Czytaj więcej
