Rarotonga Hash House Harriers Hussies & Hoffspring

Had an excellent outing with the local hash club on the capital island of the Cook Islands here in the South Pacific. We had 25 hashers ranging in age from about 7 to 70 in this very family friendly environment. The hashers were so nice and welcoming, and civic minded. It was trash pickup day, so as we scampered along on the beach, we picked up trash while looking for trail that was marked in pink chalk and shredded paper (yea, we made a little of our own mess). Circle was quick, with only 5 given out . . . one for the hare, and then 4 simultaneous including toilet seats (pictures to follow once posted). A fun outing on a very hot day.Lue lisää

    7. maaliskuuta 2024, Uusi Seelanti ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

Our hares, I-Feel-Tower and More Legs set both a walkers and runners trail for a pack of almost 40. Unfortunately, the rain did a number on it before I (your humble RA) showed up to take care of Mother Nature and bring a calm to the force.

At 6 o'clock, we ventured out into the sunshine for start of trail. After some brief introductions, the pack was pointed up hill to take on trail. Trail wandered up and around some mountain bike trails, had a couple long falsies, and wound its way back into town.

After a bit of time, a short circle was held to recognize our hares, and a few other misfortunes, and all was right in the world. We then had dinner upstairs in Winnie's pizzeria. Another successful adventure.

  • INTERHASH Day 1 . . . Trail 1

    9. maaliskuuta 2024, Uusi Seelanti ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Hares: Tripod (Wellington H3) and . . . Hazukashii, Tooth Fairy, Scuba Deuce (vagrant members of the infamous Aloha H3 in Hawaii)

We had about 50 on trail with us, but due to getting pointed in the wrong direction at some point, we had about 10 hashers on trail 5 also get to enjoy trail 1.

It was about 12 kms overall if you did the optional observation point, otherwise it was about 11 kms. Plenty of shiggy and dirt tracks to go around for all, and the climb was pure joy.

Had about 50 again, so a good pack enjoying the climb. We had to move the start / finish location on Sunday, so trail was a couple kms shorter, but did not effect the elevation 🙂 . . . Still nearly a 500m gain in elevation.

Circle was just as fun with the second pack.

Just back from INTERHASH in New Zealand, and off on another event weekend with the Mearns H4 in Grantown on Spey out on the Scottish Highlands. Friday night was the usual meet and greet, and by the time I finished dinner the jet lag was setting in, and I could barely keep my eyes open, so off to bed early. Managed to get 11 hours of sleep, so was ready to take on a long trail Saturday. It was an awesome 8 miles of countryside on a fairly chilly afternoon. By the time we finished, all I wanted to do was get inside and warm up. Overall, a great day on the hash.Lue lisää

After another great night of sleep, it was up early for a morning jaunt out on the Scottish Highlands. It was announced as an 8 km spin, but with a bit of gaps between marks, it end up a bit longer and I managed to come in at 11 K, oops. At least it was warmer out today. Another fab trail with an interesting circle after.Lue lisää

    24. maaliskuuta 2024, Skotlanti ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

It was up at the crack of dawn to set trail today out on Slug Road, as it had rained off and on all night. It rained just a tad while setting, as it did while the pack ran it, but all was well. Only issue was someone had kicked out a few of the marks, but fortunately we were able to fix that before anyone got lost.

This 10 km trail came through with plenty of shiggy, muddy trails, several swampy bits, a bit of elevation . . . and even a water crossing. All in a days work, as they say. Everyone looked happy at the beer/sweets check (yes, there was a beer check 😊 ). D for DONE!!

  • Athens H3 #2237

    7. huhtikuuta 2024, Kreikka ⋅ 🌬 20 °C

Athens is one of my favorite cities, and the Athens Hash is so friendly. I first came here in March 2020, just before COVID shut down the travel industry (and many other things). Today was another great trail, and our hare "Fair Cop" set this one along the beach on the East Coast. We followed that up with a Greek family style dinner, and then tea and cake at the hare's house. Good fun, and a lovely spring day. Great to see some friends from previous visits (two years ago they hosted an Away Weekend on Corfu . . . another awesome weekend). And . . . special shout out to Tender Vittles for the ride to the run, and Olga for the ride to the airport after.Lue lisää

    8. huhtikuuta 2024, Thaimaa ⋅ ☀️ 38 °C

So nice to be back in the heat. It has been 3 months since I was last in Thailand, and the RA was laughing at me when he called in the returners . . . "So, where have youuuuuuuu been?" They all laughed when I said I have hashed in 10 countries already this year (UK, USA, Bahamas, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Cook Islands, Greece, Thailand) . . . ooops, make that 11.

Trail today was a 7.5 km A to B dash through China Town, with a thousand twists and turns (totally awesome), and we even enjoyed running through 2 air conditioned MRT stations. We had about 15-20 in the pack, two of which were octogenarians. Circle was also fun filled, and so nice to be back.

It is Thai New Year (a.k.a. Songkran) . . . and it is celebrated as a water festival. Meaning many people are on the streets with tubs of water, or water guns & pistols, squirting everyone. More on that tomorrow.

Trail today was a 10 kms+ out of the center of the city, and there was much less water, but plenty of sweat, as it was 97 degrees F. We had an excellent run, fun circle, and good dinner after. Sometimes it is just great to hang out with your mates and just shoot the breeze and not have to think about life for a while. A great day.

    Bangkok Harriettes H3 #2157
    Bangkok Thursday H3 #440

Another great week of sweating to the oldies . . . errr, we're not so old, just slowing down a bit. Racked up another 22 kms worth this week over three local hash trails. I don't mind the heat, but the humidity is killer. 🙂
Only pictures I could get were from the Thursday Hash, but if you look, it seems that Thursday is more the women's hash than the Wednesday Harriettes are. All good.

Three fun trails to break up the week of writing and relaxing. Gonna get this book done one way or another.

    22. huhtikuuta 2024, Thaimaa ⋅ ☀️ 38 °C

It was about 39 C (102 F) out at the start of this trail, so it was another sweaty affair. We were trotting along some khlong paths, through some banana trees, a long open field of sponge grass (not wet, but every step would sink down a good 12 inches), and then we reached a point at about 6.5 kms, where an angry farmer did not want us passing through, and collected up all the paper marks.

The Nigerian and I turned around, and headed back to a point where we could circle around, ended up adding a couple kms to the total trail. I think some of the hashers may have grabbed a taxi, and others just shortcutted back to the start. The Nigerian and I were out for 2 hours, and last to arrive, even after cutting back around and finding the in trail.

Good thing there was some water and cold beer waiting for us at the end. All is well that ends well. Overall, a fun trail (that ended up being 11.6 kms), and another great day on the hash.

Another great trail from Drunken Donut & Sexy Lashes. I always love all those tiny alleyways with multiple options and checkbacks, especially in the dark. This one even had a boat ride, as part of the 9 km weave through Chinatown.

Interesting note, on trail was one of the founding members of the Montevideo H3 from back in 2010. I hope she sends me the details of that as it was the first hash club in Uruguay.
