I pulled off a gag I have wanted to do for a long time tonight. I turned up at this hash incognito. The back story is, I founded this hash 30 years ago this month (and it has been 21 years since I last ran a trail with them). Five months ago while I was in Bangkok, I was contacted by the current GM with an invitation to hare this event . . . of course I said YES, would love to. So while I am in Bangkok, I had patches made celebrating the 30th anniversary. Fast forward 3-4 months and I have not heard anything more from the GM, and I see that the scheduled date has moved back a couple weeks into August. No mention of me haring, and no contact of the change. The new dates were not good for my schedule and I could not make it.

Doing my thing, and traveling around, I finally decide what the heck, I have these patches so I’m going to show up anyway (Outerhash Style). I thought wouldn’t it be funny if I just showed up as a visitor, and ran along and observed the hash, using one of my “other” hash names at the start (Pablo P-Hash-Oh). I get to the start, introduce myself, and the gag worked out perfectly, no one knew me. We run trail, go through circle, and although I was called out before the trail as a visitor, I was never recognized as a visitor in the circle. So just before the closing song, I did a pint-of-lager and asked to address the circle (along with singing several fun songs).

Walking into the circle, I explained that I would like to tell a story . . . about how I told a little fib at the start about being here for the first time. I started off telling them that 5 months ago, I had been extended an invitation to hare this 30th anniversary trail, and I accepted, and walked around the circle passing out the patches. Nobody really knew what to say, other than uggg . . . thanks, and a bit of shock. We had several good laughs, and I got a picture with the current GM. Gag was successful. Looking forward to trails with the Ft. Eustis H3 and Tidewater H3 this weekend, that I ran with back in the early 90s.

Fun times on the hash. Giving a shout out to any old time Tidewater & Ft Eustis hashers to come out this weekend for some old time fun.

The first hash in the USA, and all the Americas as well. I first ran with the FEH3 just 31 years ago, and the last time was 21 years ago. Today they had a 3 phase effort starting with a bike ride, then a run, then a kayak flotilla back to the start. Since I was just passing through, I had no bike or boat, so only did the run.

From the start, we took off in a heavy rain, so we were soaked right from the start. I enjoy running in the rain, so no big deal . . . it did make it a bit interesting finding the marks . . . but we succeeded. Another great day on the hash, and out near Colonial Williamsburg to boot.

    21 июля 2024 г., Соединенные Штаты ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

Wow, so much nostalgia flowing this weekend, with the 30th Anniversary of the Full Moon H3, running with the Ft Eustis H3, both of which I had not hashed with for over 21 years.

In my 31 year military career, I was stationed here in Norfolk (on sea duty) early on from 93-96, and despite being called away for numerous adventures at sea, we ran so many fun and amazing trails. I will only mention one Tidewater H3 adventure . . . one Sunday, it was pouring rain most of the day, and trail was a fun shitshow. We circled up under some small pavilion, which was near a baseball field. As the puddles grew bigger, I decided to start doing some dive skids (running and diving face first into a puddle and sliding as far as possible. Well, after a couple of these, several others thought it looked like fun, and for the next half hour we tore up that baseball diamond. We were all covered in mud from head to toe. So many more tales, but we all have them, right?!?!

I first hashed with Tidewater H3 (one of the 9 hash clubs I have over 100 runs with) in 1993, and was the GM from 1994-1995 . . . and I never thought about it, but seems I was the 4th GM (see photo). Everyone loved singing hash songs, and we would get through the circle quickly, then reform for those that wanted to hang out, and we would sing songs for an hour or two every week. It was amazing.

Today, we had an awesome shiggy trail that had several water crossings, and some of them were through mud so thick, that at one point I lost a shoe stepping out of the water. My foot was covered in mud, and all I could do was shove it back in the shoe and run along . . . good times. Trail was nearly 5 miles, but we were afforded the opportunity to hose off at the finish . . . and we saw a few bums and boobs in the effort. In the circle, I received a surprise, in the form of a GM cap (it’s a Navy town, so hence the dixie cup). But I was very honored by the gift, many thanks to ‘Gave Educator Dick’ who made caps for all the previous GMs last year (I was unable to attend then, due to hashing in Vietnam on the Mekong IndoChina Hash).

But again, I have so many great memories from my three years here in the Norfolk / Virginia Beach area, it’s hard to put into words. Was great to see a few old timers that turned up, maybe will see a few more at USA Nash Hash next month. Thank you TH3 for letting me join you again today, and great to make so many new friends.

  • German Hashathon

    10 августа 2024 г., Германия ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Spent a couple days with GBoF prior to German Hashathon, and made a trip out to the site to scout trail. Overall, the weekend went very well. While the pack was running trails 1 & 2, I was setting trail 3. Took me 4 hours, but back in time for a quick rest . . . then ran the trail with the pack.

After 26.5 kms, and another rest, I went ahead and ran trail 4 with the pack. A short 6 kms down to the lake and back. After that, we had a final circle and dinner. Then sang songs around the campfire for hours before the midnight dash. Was nice to see Pink again.

  • Stuttgart H3 #834

    11 августа 2024 г., Германия ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

Bouncing back (with a hangover from hashathon) several of us returned to Stuttgart to catch the regular Sunday trail. It was a long trail of 12 kms, so really got to stretch out our already tired legs once again.

My head was still a bit woozy, so just tagged along as best I could. Also, Stuttgart is now one of the 10 hash clubs I have over 100 trails with. Many would say . . . GET A LIFE. But this IS my life. 😆😆

Dashing along the streets of Kornwestheim on the northern side of Stuttgart, trail was an A to B to A, with a stop at a street rock concert. The pack had the option to stay and rock out, or continue on trail back to the meet point. I decided to skip on back to the end. From the looks of the trail, we ran a big F.

Last trail in Germany for a while, now headed off to SE Asia for a couple months. On out to PAN ASIA, KOREAN HASH A THON, ALL JAPAN NASH HASH, and MEKONG INDOCHINA HASH.

Ahhh, so good to be back in Bangkok, the city of warm temps and high humidity (but I love it). Today's trail was hared by Tickler, and what a fine trail it was. Plenty of off road shiggy and underbrush, and just the right amount of mass confusion. 🙂

Circle was well performed by new GM Codpiece, and the whole gang was in good form. So nice to be back.

With a run number like that, how could we go wrong. Well, unless you are the RA. Soon after finishing trail he grumbled he had run over 10 kms, so he quickly checked the others and got reports of 5.6 kms, 7.7 kms, and even an 8 . . . but nothing close to 10. 😊 Our brilliant hares No Good Boyo who was ably assisted by Bullit set a “F*cking Fantastic” trail . . . just ask Capt Eric!

On trail, amongst the 17 hashers in attendance, it seems only about 5 managed to find the WHOLE trail, as good as it was. The other dozen (including me) all did their own assimilation of trail to their hearts content.
In the circle, 5 hashers were called out for either being LATE to the start, or at least late enough that they had not paid . . . and hash cash was hot on their tail to collect. My taxi was having such a hard time darting through city traffic, that I was so late I jumped out still 3 kms away from the start and began running it in to shorten my lateness (but to no avail). In the end, all were sated with beer, and finger food, and the circle was closed abruptly when it started to rain. Most everyone went to dinner after, so another great day on the hash.

Another very humid day on the hash, was totally soaked in sweat most of the run. Was mostly a street trail on this one, with a few Klong paths mixed in. Big circle, probably more than 30 turned up. Getting rested for a big weekend of hashing here in Bangkok, we have the Full Moon tomorrow, then the regular Sat, Sun, Mon trails. Are we gonna have a good time? You bet your ass we are!!Читать далее

  • Another Week in Bangkok

Bangkok Full Moon H3 #234 (Friday)
    Bangkok H3 #2421 (Saturday)
    Siam Sunday H3 #613 (Sunday)
    Bangkok Monday H3 #2122 (Monday)

Four more excellent trails over the weekend with plenty of shiggy, and combined 30 kms of fun. Full Moon runs in the dark, which I really enjoy. The Men’s Hash on Saturday was run entirely in a steady downpour of rain, complete with lightning and thunder, good times for nearly 90 minutes. Sunday was a super shiggy trail as well, the photos are all from Sunday. Monday was again 82% humidity and soaked in sweat throughout. Bangkok is an awesome place to hash!!

That makes 101 hash trails so far in 2024, well on course for my average 150 trails per year. 🤪🤪🤪

Another hot and humid afternoon in Bangkok, and trail was fortunately on the river. We had nice summer breezes to keep us cool, and a dash of rain here and there. We started by going up the stairs and crossing the bridge, before working down the shoreline and eventually taking the ferry back across to the side we started on. Over 9 kms from the start, we trundled into the finish, ready to rehydrate.Читать далее

  • Siam Sunday H3 #614

    8 сентября 2024 г., Таиланд ⋅ ☁️ 32 °C

Sunday Funday in Bangkok. We had a large pack for a great day in the shiggy. At the start, it rained off and on, and looked like it could dump on us in a big way . . . but, nothing.

We headed out with a few instructions from the hare, that "There Will Be Shiggy!" Off we went. The run site was not far from where we had the Bangkok Hash yesterday, but never the two trails should meet. We did cross the river a couple times, same as yesterday, but no worries.
About halfway through, there was a beer stop, but no time to stop for that . . . keep on truckin. As the hare mentioned, there WAS plenty of shiggy, as you can see from the photos. About 7 kms in, some of the pack decided they had had enough, and b-lined to the finish. Trail on the other hand continued on for another 4 kms, and while about a dozen attempted to, only two of us managed to find the whole trail. Another great day on the hash.

We had a pack of about 25 for this overcast evening trail. From the start, we traveled about 100 meters to the first check, then spent 20 minutes (and covering about 2 kms dashing about looking up every alleyway and klong in the area) trying to break it. Trail was eventually found about 200 meters away, and off we went.

Once on trail, everything was marked pretty well. I had a very close call with a dog, that came right after me. It got within inches of a kick in the face when at the last second I noticed it was muzzled, so other than scaring the shit out of me, all was well for the rest of this nearly 10 Km adventure.
It was dark by the time we finished this one up due to the slow start, but overall a most excellent trail. After a short night sleep, I'm all packed up and back at the airport headed for the next adventure. On On!!

  • Korea Hashathon 2024 - Day 1

    13 сентября 2024 г., Южная Корея ⋅ 🌧 27 °C

Trying to get caught up after the first few days of this event in Seoul. Hashathon here is 10-15 days straight of hashing, with 1 or 2 events per day. Other places a hashathon would be 4 trails in one day equaling 26 miles.
Anyway, day 1 was Friday night. The hares for the designated trail for the night were caught in traffic, so to fill time, we had a couple hashers set a Booze Hound H3 trail for about an hour. Once complete, we heard that the original hares had arrived at the start and were setting trail. So we scrambled back and found the second chalk talk, and off we go. It was a late night of full on rain, and some of the trails were a bit washed away, but we all made it in to the finish. Day one total . . . 10.5 kms in the rain.

    14 сентября 2024 г., Южная Корея ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Early day on Saturday, meet at 10 am for the Yongsan Kimchi H3 trail (#3). It was up and around Namsan, not as high up as I had anticipated which was disappointing, but still a climb. The pack soon got spread out, and after the first 10 minutes I did not see another hasher until the end of this nearly 7 km trail.

It would be a couple hours before the pack all returned from trail, then a standard circle. We then headed into Itaewon for lunch, before catching the train out to the second trail of the day.

Osan Bulgogi H3 had sloppy seconds on Saturday, as we scampered around the south side of the Yongsan Garrison. A basic city run, on a hot day, so we made the best of this 6 km trail. Circle was dreadfully long, and hard to stay tuned into. Afterwards, it was a calm 3 km walk back to the hotel, and all was well.

2 Day tally, now 4 trails for a total of 23+ kms of trail.

  • Korea Hashathon 2024 - Day 3

    15 сентября 2024 г., Южная Корея ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Only one hash today (Sunday), with SOUTHSIDE H3 (one of my spawns, and coming up on the 25th anniversary in December). Trail was not that exciting, just a short run around the park . . . so I did it again, and added some more interesting tracks on the second loop.

We followed it up with a beer mile, which I swore I would not do again . . . but eventually gave in and ran it. There was plenty of barfing by the participants, but I managed to keep it all down and take 4th place out of about a dozen.

As the oldest hasher for all of this Hashathon, 15-20 years or more older than pretty much all of them . . . I am the cautionary tale of what 40 years of hashing will do to your body. I'm just a box car full of donuts at this point in my life. 😆😆

After all this was said and done, we went back and showered up, only to meet up again for a dinner social at Taco Amigos. Another great day on the hash. OMG we still have a long way to go.

3 Day tally, now 5 trails (and one beer mile) for a total of 30+ kms.

  • Korea Hashathon 2024 - Day 4

    16 сентября 2024 г., Южная Корея ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

Got a little rest on Monday, with only one hash trail on the schedule. We ran with the Daejeon H3, that was founded back in 2011. Daejeon is a city in central South Korea located about 2 hours south of Seoul. The club no longer runs in Daejeon, and is now only resurrected for the annual Hashathon.

It was an excellent A to B trail of nearly 8 kms, dashing through parks and alleyways . . . but it had three game stops. First was tie string cheese to a piece of string and try to rock back and forth to catch it in your mouth. Second was a 4 legged race. Third was charades of trying to guess hash names. Two teams were required, and it was decided to do guys against the girls. Anyway, the games were not so much fun to me, but most everyone else seemed to enjoy them.

At the end, we all gathered once again. An excellent hash, this club is a throwback to the early days, with no circle, which is fine. We followed up with an amazing Korean BBQ dinner, and all was well.

4 Day tally, now 6 trails (and one beer mile) for a total of 38 kms.
