    Reykjavik H3 - Runner Trail

    A hearty gang of 11 hashers flew into Iceland for yet another awesome event. Organized by Quick Drawers from the Mount Vernon H3 in Virginia, I offered to set the runner’s trail (8kms) while he and his son set the walker’s trail (4kms). We set trail at 10 am, and it was brisk out. About 10 C (50 F) with a 25-30 knot wind blowing pretty much the whole time.
    Fortunately, by run time (1400), the temps had risen and the wind calmed down a bit, so it was a pleasant afternoon. We started at the famous Hallgrimskirkja Cathedral near city center, with the runners’ trail going to the south and wound its way around to meet the walker’s going at about the 5 km point. The Walker’s trail made a smaller loop and hooked up with the runners at about 1 km in. A very scenic trail, taking in many of the city highlights, and finish along the waterfront and into a pizza shop . . . that served cold beer as well.

    Fun circle, lots to drink, and good pizza to boot. Another great hashing event . . . next time we’re planning for Bermuda.    Lue lisää

    German Nash Hash - Main Event

    We woke up to wet grounds, and that means the trails that were set yesterday had some wear and tare on them. The BB trail went out promptly at 0900, followed by the Long trail at 0915, the Medium trail at 0930, and the walkers at 0945. Of course, the walkers actually departed before we did on the Medium trail, cause . . . just because. After a 20 minute chalk talk, the hares insisted we wait until 1000. No matter, we took off at 1000 with hopes that the marks were there. Good news, some of the marks had been refreshed by a cohare, but not all of them. We basically ended up 5 minutes behind the hare most of the way, as she remarks the way.

    Overall, it was a lovely 12 kms of trail through the lush green countryside here in Germany. We made it to the planned lunch stop right on schedule, and then waltzed our way into the finish. And fortunately, there were not an excessive amount of hills, just the right amount to keep it interesting.

    A rowdy circle followed, that was littered with private conversations, so made it hard to hear . . . but still lots of laughs. Another great day on the hash. Will be missing the hangover trail in the morning, as I have to dash on back to the airport for a flight to the next adventure.    Lue lisää

    This is the last hash club I founded, nearly 18 years ago in April 2009. Always fun to come back and set trail here, Germany has so many amazing places to set trails, with lots of forest and dirt tracks. This one was nearly 9 kms with all the checks and falsies. We had about 20 hashers turn up, with several visitors coming back through from Swiss Nash Hash. Thanks to the pack for taking the pictures.

    Next up is German Nash Hash this weekend . . . looking forward to seeing many old friends, and getting in some more great trails.    Lue lisää

    Swiss Nash Hash 2026 - Main Event

    Driving down from Stuttgart on Friday, it was an afternoon of light rain, but all was well until I approached the Swiss border. About 15kms out I started seeing grass all over the roads, then a few branches down, then several trees blown over. Eventually about 3 kms from the border, the road was closed, so had to find an alternative. Along this route I could see freshly cut tree stumps lying on both sides of the road, where they had come through and cut off the trees to open the road . . . must have been one hell of a storm that blew through Thursday night. I got a few photos on the way back on Sunday, much of the clean up was done as far as opening the roads, but it will take some time to get all the trees and branches cleaned up.

    Anyway, on to the event. Swiss Nash Hash was hosted by the Schaffhausen H3 in Stein Am Rhein, which is right on the border with Germany, so only a couple kms in. It was still raining on Friday evening, but the pack still managed a fun pub crawl and late night into town.

    Saturday morning, many of the pack had bleary eyes, but all but one made it to the chalk talk for the days trails. This is where the weekend becomes a little bitter sweet for me . . . due to a new meniscus concern with my knee, I had to opt for the walking trail. It was about 7 kms to the lunch stop, and 2 more back to the venue, so a decent day on trail . . . and although I enjoyed spending the day with many friends, I just don’t get the same thrill of hashing just walking. I have always loved sweating my ass off and running the BB or at least the long trail, suffering with my FRB buds. In the past couple years, I have rarely been an FRB, but being close behind was still enjoyable. I hope a couple weeks of rest will at least get me back to running trail again. The trail was excellent, a start through the grape orchards on the hillside, led us to a series of dirt tracks taking us up to the top of the mountain. We then proceeded for about 5 kms on the crest getting lots of great views of the area. Lunch break was at the local castle (every town here in central Europe seems to have one . . . that, and the local brewery).

    After lunch, and a beverage or two, we then walked it on back to the venue for showers, dinner, and a night of dancing. A great day.    Lue lisää

    Stuttgart Full Moon H3 #193

    It was a pleasant 5 km stroll through the forest with a few undulating hills to stretch our legs on. A nice balmy evening, finishing up with a couple beers and a burger.

    Tomorrow it's off to the autobahn for a 2 hour drive to Switzerland and Swiss Nash Hash. They have some serious damn mountains down there, will I survive??Lue lisää

    I had to break away from the birthday party in Bangkok last night, to go home and grab my stuff . . . and head to the airport. Had a 17 hour flight Bangkok to Frankfurt, via Dubai. Then a 2 hour drive from Frankfurt to Stuttgart. Had enough time to check into my hotel and unpack (obviously that does not take too long), before heading out to the hash.

    This was another birthday hash, for Bad Sex here on the DST H3. He set a most excellent 7 Km A to B shiggy trail through the forest, followed by a full on dinner at his place. As you might expect, there was plenty of good German beer to wash it down. Had a nice 1 mile walk back to the start to collect my car. I noticed it is just about the full moon now, as the glimmer was clouded over, but ever present.

    Two days, two flights, two continents, and two hash trails. I've obviously done something right, to have such a great life. ON On.    Lue lisää

    Bangkok Monday H3 #2226

    Virginia Slim turns 70, and he treated the whole pack of nearly 60 hashers to a fine feast, with plenty of wine, beer, and various other drinks, to wash it all down.

    Trail started on soi 13, and right from the start, the pack got tied up on the first check and they all went over to soi 15 . . . where there was absolutely no trail. After 10 minutes of flagellation, they all came streaming back over to soi 13 and went up and turned left as they should have, and then trail turned towards the khlong. From there trail spent some time on the khlong with boats swishing by, and then into the slums along the railroad tracks. There was actually a bit of shiggy, short but sweet. Probably the best part of trail was through a couple hundred meters of overgrown vegetation that almost no one actually saw, as the devious FRBs did not follow arrows and wound up on the in trail, missing about 3/4 of a km of the best part of trail. No worries, the did not miss finding their way back to the beer.

    Circle was in a lovely courtyard, and plenty barbs of good humor where cast upon our birthday boy. I had the dubious honor of co-haring with Slim, so took some of the abuse as well. With the circle out of the way, it was time to eat . . . and eat we did. It was a great spread of meats and cheeses, several fine Thai dishes, as well as cookies and cakes for desert.     Another great day on the hash. The rain held off for us today, and good thing too . . . the whole trail was flour on the ground, a heavy rain could have doomed us. Pretty good turn out, think we had close to 30 out for the festivities. The Nigerian set a well marked and entertaining trail out on the peninsula. The pictures really tell the story.

    Circle had plenty of fun accusations / resultant down downs, and even a new pair of shoes (but she hid them, and had to drink out of her hat.    Lue lisää

    The general consensus of the pack was that this was new territory for trail, even Bullit stated he had not run around this specific area before. All around it, yes, but not along this particular section of khlong paths and back roads.

    It was a B to A run, and an early start to account for the 10-minute pickup truck ride. The walkers got dropped off at one point, and the runners, about 400 meters away. The runners started with a false trail headed out to the water, then a jog down the side of the road back to where the walkers started, so added maybe an additional 750-800 meters. From there, trail snaked along the Chao Phraya for about a km. Then crossing over a lock and into an area around a Buddhist Temple, making a big loop before crossing back over the lock, up the river for a bit, then turning right for the on in.

    The circle was as expected, lots of abuse for our visitors from Singapore, along with birthday boy Virginia Slim. Who would go on to host a huge party on Monday, free of charge for a rather extensive selection of tasty things to eat, and all the beer you could handle. All this for turning 70, just wait till he turns 80, like the rest of us.

    Dinner was served in an eclectic little place tucked into the area down a little alleyway. There were live rabbit, chickens, and various other animals in a crazy little bio-sphere. Since we were in the glass enclosed dining room, maybe we were the live spectacle for the animals. Stranger things have happened on the Bangkok Hash.

    Huge shout out to Vichai Cool for providing dinner for the rest of us on his Emerald Diner’s Card. But he gets three demerits for bringing out that bottle of turpentine from the Republic of Georgia, that took at least three years of life off of all those who took a swig.    Lue lisää

    Bangkok Thursday H3 #533 - AGM

    Another year of hash hijinks complete, another new hash committee installed to organize future foolishness. Outgoing GM, Shadow Max, set an excellent A to B trail of 8+ kms to celebrate the AGM. Plenty of twists and turns, back checks, and a bit of general confusion as the pack misread or blindly ran past trail marks that were sometimes hidden in the dark. Great fun if you ask me.

    Arriving at the B site, we enjoyed a steady flow of beer that got us primed for circle. We had one pure virgin from China (living in Bangkok), a few visitors & returners, and a bulk of occasional runners mixed in with the core group of about 20 that normally turn up. An excellent mix of young and old as well. And the T-shirts, pretty cool . . . first time I have seen a salmon colored hash shirt. The pictures and videos tell the story, check ‘em out.    Lue lisää

    We are having so much fun here in the rainy season. Fortunately, the rain was only a sprinkle before the trail, but it did not rain on us during the run. We had a rather large pack, with nearly 30 joining in for the fun.

    We started at one of the most abused trail starts here in Bangkok, having had so many trails at this spot. BUT, our hares still managed to create a trail that was unique and tricky that kept us guessing throughout. After about 4 kms, we passed by the obvious return route to the start . . . but they sent us in the opposite direction for an additional 4 kms that was just as fun as the first 4 kms . . . yup, trail was just over 8 kms of twists and turns.

    The whole pack managed to find their way back, and circle commenced with great enthusiasm. All the usual stuff, but this was a BIRTHDAY trail for our fun loving HOT LIPS, supported by her best friend Pat Pom. They managed to surprise us all day long. Including the circle and follow on dinner. Speaking of the dinner . . . it was unbridled opulence to the 3rd degree. Wine, Whiskey, and at least 5 different birthday cakes. I am going to have to run 75 miles on the side to erase all the crazy sugary treats after the dinner . . . which was over the top as well.    Lue lisää

    We are enjoying more of the rainy season, especially for this hash trail. Traffic was not to bad, so arrived at the start a little early . . . but enough time to see a couple rain squalls pass over the area. Soon enough, a pack of 20 hashers formed up in anticipation of this logistical endeavor. My leg is back to about "80% ok" after the motoscooter incident on Wednesday, so was able to run fairly well again. We started on the Chao Phraya River, and the plan was for us to board a ferry over to the nearby island of Ko Kret. As we chugged our way down river, another squall passed over and set the stage for what the rest of the day would be like. RAIN!!

    Making port on Ko Kret, we had been instructed to turn right and follow the trail . . . but there was no trail, so we kept going, and going, and going. Finally, about 1.5 kms out, we started seeing some paper here and there. Other things we had been briefed on, were at least 8 checks (of which we saw none due to the rain, and possibly the rapid clean up crew of inhabitants on the island). There was also tell of a small farmyard with many large black swans (those bastards can be vicious when they want to be), and an 8 foot wall that needed to be surmounted, which we did, and various other shiggy related obstacles.

    Between the walkers and runners navigating the rain soaked trail, the pack got spread out pretty good as we each searched our way through various pathways, eventually ending up at another port, where we took a second ferry over to the eastern side of the river followed by about 500 meters of trail to yet another port, where we took the final ferry back over to the run site on the western side of the river.

    Circle was inundated with numerous funny stories of who ran where, and various other tales. We welcomed 2 visitors, praised the hare for not only an entertaining trail, but also for stepping up last minute to set trail when the scheduled hare had to bow out.     It was a fine evening for a hash, but I was recovering from getting hit by a scooter yesterday so only walked about half the trail. It was Foreskin Posse's first shot at haring in Bangkok, so good to see him stepping up. Trail was in an area that I have scouted and set trails in several times, and FP actually used about 1/3 of my last trail in the area as part of his trail. All good, it was a different start point, so most probably did not even notice.Lue lisää

    Just your average day here in Bangkok during the rainy season. Trail starts at 1730, but at 1500, while the hare is setting trail . . . it starts to pour down hard. Fast forward to 1730, it has stopped raining, but the trail is in question. Off we go in search of . . . and for the first 1-2 kms all is well, but then it starts to get hinky. The pack is running all over, and finding little trail for their efforts.

    At this point, I have done the Star Trek motto . . . boldly going where no one has gone before . . . and just running around in hope of finding something. Well, after the trail fade at 2 kms, I have ranged my way back around until I run into 4x2 coming in the opposite direction. He tells me there are no marks back where he came from, so I turn around and head in another direction. Well, getting back to the main road, I am at a cross walk waiting for the traffic to die down, and when it does, I start crossing. I see two motoscooters coming along, and they are crossing behind me, so as I get to the middle of the street I look left for oncoming traffic to finish the cross. Just as I do that, WHAM . . . I get smacked on my right side by a motoscooter. He was not going too fast, so the Bastard must have just pulled out from a side street, and ran right into me. I was shocked more than injured . . . so hobbled on across the street to get out of traffic . . . then the little MF just takes off. I was not seriously injured, and went on to run a couple kms more just to loosen it up . . . but I guess I’ll have a nice charlie horse and a bruise in the morning.

    The rest of the trail was insignificant, I ran around for a bit and then turned back to the start. As fate would have it, in circle . . . they all made fun of the fact that I was almost killed in the streets of Bangkok, but since I was still alive, I deserved the TITS OF THE WEEK award. Thanks a lot, NOT. 😊

    After that, it was off to dinner and more good times. Now back home, I have showered up and poured my self a tall Whiskey and Cola to deaden the pain. We’ll see how it looks in the morning. I am just so happy I have lived through all these close calls and come out none the worse from each. Thanks you Torch Bennett for looking over me on trail. On On.    Lue lisää

    Making our way back to Bangkok after the Lanna Hash, and stopped over for a run with the CH3 here in Chiang Mai. It was stated it was going to be about 7 kms, but turned out to only be 5. Easy day, short but hilly, and all dirt tracks on a mountain bike course. Very nice run.

    Circle was a hoot, plenty of charges to laugh about (and several trips to the ice). Stopped for dinner of Pizza on the way back to town, followed by a few drinks on the ville. Off to the airport soon.    Lue lisää

    What an adventure . . . after an early morning flight to Chiang Mai, we proceeded on in a rental car for over 8 hours to drive up to the Burmese Border for a fun filled weekend of extreme hashing. This was no ordinary 8 hour drive though. If you have ever driven the Road to Hana on Maui, this was all of that times 5. A thousand twists and turns to make your stomach roll over, and over, and over. It had been raining off and on for days, and one of the bridges along the way had actually been partially washed out, so we had a 2 hour delay while the road crew dumped a few truck loads of dirt in to fill in the seam.

    We arrived in the late afternoon on Friday, in time to get settled and wait for the next rain storm to start. We then drove another 30 minutes into town for dinner and drinks. It rained all night . . . so we anticipated a sloppy trail on Saturday. After a night of drinks, we rallied on Saturday morning for 4 hours of slipping and sliding through the jungles of northern Thailand. The pictures don’t tell the whole story, as I only took pictures when it was not pouring down rain. It was a lot of fun, but lots of killer hills, and testing fate in the hopes of not falling down multiple times (some did, I was lucky).

    Trail was set up in three phases; first phase was 8-10 kms depending on how many checks you had to break, second phase was about the same, and third phase was only about 5 kms and less hilly. We had about a dozen hashers on phase 1 & 2, but most of us had had enough by that point, and only 4 of us continued on to do phase 3. For the first two, I clocked up 17 kms, others landed between 15.5 and 20 kms. Those that did all three topped out at over 25 kms. We were all soaked with sweat and rain over 4 plus hours of fun.

    After a long hot shower and some dry clothes, we tapped the kegs and pulled out the ice for circle. Over the next several hours we had a raucous circle, a fabulous dinner, and more circle. I only made it to 2100 and had to crash, waking up in the middle of the night for a trip to the wizzer, I could still hear a few hard core hashers singing and laughing as late as 0300 Sunday morning. Oh to be young again.

    Sunday was a reverse repeat of Friday’s highway adventure, but we came back a slightly less curvy route, but still stomach turning. Now back in Chiang Mai resting, ready for a hash trail with the CH3 tomorrow afternoon. Life is full of grand adventures.    Lue lisää

    What a day. Less than an hour before the start, like clockwork, it started to pour. On the bright side, about 15 min before pack away, it stopped. That led to a series of events that made for a hilarious hash trail. Marked in paper and chalk, we anticipated spotty marks. In fact, the first 1500 meters there were no marks at all. We finally started seeing paper after that, so made the effort much easier.

    At the 3 km mark, we came to a T, and there was a faded arrow pointing to the right, and everyone in front of me was going right. We thought it was just faded due to the rain, as we continued to see arrows and paper (you starting to think this was a point of deviation?). Well, we continued south on these marks for 2 more kms, the marks were slightly faded, but still clear. In one gap between marks, I figured we are 5 kms out we crossed a bridge and were still headed away, so I turned left and headed to the next bridge where I anticipated the trail would be headed back. I was correct, found a mark on the stairs entering the sidewalk to the bridge. Marks became spotty again, but there was some paper in a few poles over the next km, until the arrows started up again.

    At 6.5 kms, the trail turned left, and the arrows pointed back under the bridge along the khlong . . . so cool. The trail started heading east, but since the trail was only supposed to be 5-6 kms, why are we heading away from the finish again? The marks were solid at this point, and it looped around for another 2+ kms and back finally to the finish. This is when the discussion and laughing began. We were informed by the hare, that her trail was a standard loop, everything we found for 3+ kms in the middle (the yellow circle on the map) was not her trail. Turns out, as best we could figure, it was another trail from a few weeks ago. How had all these arrows and paper survived that long? Even the hare for that previous trail turned right at that T and followed his old marks unbeknownst to him.

    We all figured it out at and made it back to the beer. We just scored a few extra kms in fitness. 😊 The circle was full of stories of who went where and how they got there. There was even discussion of possibly a third trail a couple hashers crossed over on, leading them yet farther off track. In the end, we had a rare rare rare occurrence, with Pat Pom having run nearly 12 kms, receiving ToTW . . . the rare part was it was the first time she ever got it, what made it rare rare rare was she had already received the PoTW on Monday, for leading the pack astray on her own marks, not following the trail.     Trail started out fine, but turned into sort of a cluster f*ck. We exited the parking lot, and entered the park nearby. Trail had a couple checks, and took us up over the sky bridge and after the long straightaway, we hit another check that took us a while to break. The next check we could not break, and most of the pack ended up aborting trail and finding their own way back to the start.

    I was on for about 2.5 kms, then had a nice jog around the area for another 6.5 kms, and just made my own way to the finish. We hashed in the same area last week, so knew my way around the area. Chalk it up as a SNAFU.    Lue lisää

    Yup, me again haring for the boys of Bangkok. It has been raining quite a bit lately, and the trail showed it. I even had to move the start down the road because the parking lot at the restaurant was flooded and covered in mud.

    In an attempt to shift away from the short trails of late, I made sure this one got us back on track, and it was 9 kms of shiggy heaven. While I did have to do some pavement between the shiggy, the pictures tell the story.

    A couple walkers managed to stroll in first, but the runners came in soon after, all with wet shoes. Although rain was in the forecast for the afternoon, none was had . . . so only the feet got wet, but there was plenty of sweat to make up for it. Another great day on the hash.    Lue lisää

    Small pack tonight for this night time excursion. We only had about a dozen or so, but we still managed to bust up the town. We started out just fine, but about 10 minutes into running, it started to rain . . . and that made finding the few arrows available, just a bit challenging.

    We had some good hounds on the job, and despite many twists and turns through China Town, the pack all eventually found the on home. Good times, good times I tell you.    Lue lisää

    Another milestone hash event here in Bangkok. Three hash clubs here in the city have now achieved 2222 hash trails. The Senator set a rain soaked trail for us, and even provided a commemorative t-shirt for the event.

    From the start, we zigged and zagged to the main road, crossed over a walking bridge, and then the marks went dead for a bit. Some of us went down a road that apparently had old paper on it, but all turned back except me. I went another 250 to 300 meter and found a check. From there, I was out in front for most of the trail. Breaking the checks allowed the pack to eventually catch up, and all the FRBs rolled in together. At my advanced age, it was fun being out in front for a change and breaking all the checks on my own. Might never happen again, so a good day on the hash.

    Circle was the usual stuff, lots of laughs (and down downs). We then recessed for a great Thai dinner. Good time on the hash.    Lue lisää

    It was overcast, but it was very humid. Drenched in sweat, we completed the 3.5 km trail in about 28 min. So, why not take another lap. About half the pack went around again (I cut off a couple obvious loops, and went back for the beer). It was an excellent trail by Tinker, who even manned a beer stop near the end. We had a couple visitors, one was currently from the Seoul H3, the other a former member of Seoul H3, much like myself.
    Dinner was plentiful, made up of many a Thai delight . . . LB brought out the White Shark, and things got fuzzy after that. Another great day on the hash.    Lue lisää

    Bangkok Thursday H3 #530

    It was one of those days . . . jumped in a taxi 90 min before the start, Google said, even with the traffic, it would take 45 min. Then we started hitting the red lights . . . I timed them, we hit three in a row that stayed red for 5 full minutes. My 45 min buffer kept dropping. First down to 35 min, then 30, and soon enough it was completely gone. My 45 min ride was going to take 90 min. Then by goodness G intervened. The traffic parted, we started moving along, faster and faster. My buffer started to grow again. In the end, I got to the start 10 mins before go time. What a relief.

    After dropping my stuff, we quickly circled up for chalk talk, and off we go on what turned out to be a 6 km jaunt. It was China Town, and any well marked trail there is going to be interesting, with all the little alleyways and arched bridges. This one was well marked, so we all enjoyed the twists and turns, everyone taking their best shot to break each of the checks, and we mostly ended up coming in together.
