Who Runs The World

On 10 Oct 2019, I depart Hawaii on a round the world hashing excursion. Original destination was Trinidad for INTERHASH. This trip was cut short due to COVID 19. Time to quarantine, and get caught up on medical stuff. Next trip . . Even more epic Okumaya devam et
  • INTERGULF 2020 Recovery Run

    21 Mart 2020, Bahreyn ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

A hearty pack of 4 gathered for the Black Hash Recovery Run today. Keeping our 2 meter distance throughout, our small gang skulked around the back alleyways in search of the perfect trail. Well we didn't find it, but we had a damn good time. Another INTERGULF officially in the books, and I have just enough details to write an article on Bahrain. Did we have a good time? You bet your ass we did!!! https://www.relive.cc/view/vdvmBpB28NOOkumaya devam et

  • Visa Extension . . . No Problem

    26 Mart 2020, Bahreyn ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Since tomorrow starts the weekend here in the Middle East, today was the last day I could go down and get a visa extension. It was only a 30 min walk from my buddies condo, so I took off about 9 am. Found the place no problem, but the guard turned me away because I had shorts on. "You must put on long pants." I wandered around the area for about 30 minutes, but finally found a little shop still open, that had what I needed. Only cost me about $8 for a light pair of sweat pants, blue, that look fine. Then I get back over to the visa office, had to stand on the street for about 10 min, then quick temp check, then into an A/C tent. Next guard asks what I wanted, told him visa extension. He says ok, do you have a form. No . . . OK, let me get you one. So fill out the form, wait another 10 min, he waves me forward, and tells me to go down there and turn right. I go straight into an immigration clerk. I was anticipating an interrogation . . . what are you doing here, why do you want to stay, where are you staying, on on on and on . . . but no, the only question he asks me is . . . wait for it . . . cash or card? Hahahahaha. So now I have another two weeks in Bahrain, to watch the world implode, or unwrap itself from the COVID-19 scare. I am very lucky that I have a hash buddy here, that will let me stay. Also, after over 5 months of wandering around in shorts, I finally have a long pair of pants again, just in case. I hope everyone out there is happy, healthy, and sane of mind. :o)Okumaya devam et

  • Bahrain Black H3 Trail #1847

    28 Mart 2020, Bahreyn ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

In this new era of social distance hashing, Saigon Sally and I set trail early this morning. Start location was posted, and hashers were allowed to show up and follow trail anytime they wanted during the day. According to the reports and check ins, looks like we had about a half dozen hashers follow trail, last one finishing right at dusk (so roughly 9 hours from start of setting trail, to last one in). Had plenty of desert shiggy, ups and downs, and even a water crossing. No circle, only texting about it on WhatsApp. Good fun just the same, the best we can do it these unusual times. On On. https://www.relive.cc/view/vZqNNdzAA3qOkumaya devam et

  • Bahrain H3 Trail #2551

    30 Mart 2020, Bahreyn ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

More social distancing, but still good fun. Best guess is we had about 15 hashers get out there and do some form of trail. All headed out solo or in small groups, we still found lots of dirt between the buildings. Good fun in these troubled times. https://www.relive.cc/view/vXOnE2V8dBvOkumaya devam et

  • BITCH3 Trail #32 (2nd Anny)

    3 Nisan 2020, Bahreyn ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

The Bahrain Independent Trail Chasers H3 (BITCH3) is a fairly new club here in Bahrain, hence the second anniversary. You can read about their exploits (and rules) at http://bitch3.com - I volunteered to set another trail while I am in a holding pattern waiting for the COVID 19 to run its course, and get back to travelling. This was another social distancing success. After a good scouting hike on Wednesday, Saigon Sally and I set trail in the morning, and let the pack loose to run it anytime they wanted in the afternoon. There were many accounts posted of finding dead things (bones, skulls, and whole skeletons of various animals) out in the desert. The pack also had to dodge a few horses, and at least one motorcycle. Trail turned out a bit shorter than planned, but anyone who has hared knows, the trail sort of works itself out in its own way. Spring is fading here in Bahrain, and summer is coming . . . so hydrating is getting more important. But until the COVID era is over, y'all have to bring your own beer, and enjoy it in your own time. 2 meters distance, and no groups larger than 5. Get some. https://www.relive.cc/view/v7O9w1GM7LqOkumaya devam et

  • Bahrain Black H3 Trail #1848

    4 Nisan 2020, Bahreyn ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Yet another foray into physical fitness and sanity enhancement, all while practicing good social distancing skills. No other hashers in sight throughout, except for Saigon Sally, who I could barely keep up with . . . that dude is FAST. But I guess that means I am well on the road to recovery, able to run again. This was a good city trail, with lots of alleyways and side streets, and an occasional dirt lot. Life is pretty wonderful, despite the current world lockdown. Things will get better y'all, life will eventually return to normal. Stay strong. https://www.relive.cc/view/vPv4Jo28B36Okumaya devam et

  • Bahrain H3 Trail #2552

    6 Nisan 2020, Bahreyn ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Life in Bahrain is not to bad, I am enjoying the warm sunshine on a daily basis. Life in the current COVID-19 lockdown is certainly difficult for everyone, so I am counting my blessings that I am not quarantined. This trail was a fast city run, and probably the fastest I have run since my surgery. 4.2 miles in 45 minutes is sub 11 minute miles, considering crossing streets with traffic, and looking for trail, that is close to sub 10 minutes miles. If I can get back down to sub 9, that's getting back down close to where I was in late 2018 before the murmur. Anyway, just have to keep looking for the silver lining in all this mess. Life is a blessing, let's all make the most of it. https://www.relive.cc/view/vNOPnejJK2qOkumaya devam et

  • BITCH3 Trail #33

    10 Nisan 2020, Bahreyn ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

It was the hottest day since I arrived a month ago [39C / 102F]. Trail started up near the airport, and had a funny story to go with it. Doing these social distancing trails, the hare goes out early and sets the trail. Slither was that hare, and he made it about 3/4 of the way through, and while going through the town, got picked up by the police for putting down flour. After a couple hours of questioning, another hasher went in and helped explain. They eventually let him go, but the trail had an abrupt ending in the middle of the street. We eventually figured it out, and made our way back to the start. https://www.relive.cc/view/v26M8yKM73OOkumaya devam et

  • Bahrain Black H3 Trail #1849

    11 Nisan 2020, Bahreyn ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Not quite as hot today, but was still pretty warm. Was a nice city trail through Janabiyah. Saigon Sally and I went out for an early morning jog, and were probably the first ones on trail. By the time we finished, there were a couple others on trail, and a couple more that took off just before we drove away. Very well marked trail, good times. I actually found the "On In" while looking around at a previous check, but knew it was too soon, so ran back and found trail going the other direction. So got an extra 2 Kms worth in. This may be my last hash trail here in Bahrain, as my visa expires tomorrow. If my extension does not get approved, I'll have to make a hasty departure Sunday night (early Monday morning). https://www.relive.cc/view/vYvrD5AGmx6Okumaya devam et

  • Could be Time . . . to Head Home

    12 Nisan 2020, Bahreyn ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

My visa extension runs out today. Unless a last minute miracle happens, I don't think a second extension will be approved. As it stands right now, I will be heading to the airport for the 32 hour trip back around the world to Honolulu. My flight departs at 1:30 am, that will take me from Bahrain to Paris on Gulf Air. Then over to Delta (Air France) from Paris to Los Angeles, and the final leg is Los Angeles to Honolulu, due to arrive at 7:39 PM, all on the same day (Monday, 13 April). There is simply no way to continue to travel until later this year when the COVID beast has been tamed. Frankly, who knows how all that will unfold. Although shorter than anticipated, this trip will in fact have taken me completely around the planet. It was great to have Jo along for the middle 4 months of this journey, glad she got to enjoy all the best parts. It was also excellent to meet and hang out with old friends, and so many new friends.Okumaya devam et

  • Badaa badaa, That's All Folks

    13 Nisan 2020, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

I have returned to Hawaii. Arrived on schedule, checked in with the state, and sent directly into 14 days quarantine. I flew 18,000 kms today. This worldwide trip has officially ended. It was an amazing adventure to 22 countries. Was able to run 81 hash runs, with 43 different clubs (coincidentally the exact same number of flights I took during this trip), and cross two items off my bucket list (Parthenon and Pyramids). Now to get caught up on my medical requirements . . . And then, start a new adventure in the post COVID 19 world.Okumaya devam et
