    July 31, 2016 in Oman ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Now in Oman, probably the last country I visit before going home and completing the round the world trip. Not sure how long I'm going to stay yet.

The people are very friendly here though, as in most of the Arabic countries I've visited.

Spent today walking along the seafront, visited a very good museum, the souq, a few towers, and the Sultans palace. Quite warm for walking though. Tomorrow is 37C. But at least it's drier heat than when I was in Asia.

  • Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque

    August 1, 2016 in Oman ⋅ ☀️ 38 °C

Visited a couple of mosques today, but the main one was this one.

The place was huge, and had an amazing chandelier.

Spent about an hour in the Islamic information centre while they tried to convert me, but also answered any questions I had. There was free water and dates, so it was good.Read more

Rented a car for today and tomorrow to go out and see some sights. Going on an organised tour was crazy expensive.

First stop was Nizwa castle, would have also visited the souq but it was closed at the time I was there. Then visited Jibreen Castle, which I think was my favorite of the day.Read more

  • Jebel Shams

    August 2, 2016 in Oman ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Finished the day after a steep climb up to near the highest point in Oman, Jebel Shams.

Nice views on the way up, also gave some old local man a lift, he didn't speak any English. Watched the sunset had some food and then stayed out to watch the sky, it was so clear and could see the milky way. Tried to take a picture.Read more

  • Omani Grand Canyon

    August 3, 2016 in Oman ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Woke up early and headed to do the 'balcony walk' in what is known as the Omani Grand Canyon.

It isn't as impessive or big as the real Grand Canyon, but it was impressive, and the balcony walk along the inside of the canyon was awesome. Although it was very hot which explains why nobody else was doing it. Meant I had the abandoned village at the end of the walk to myself (why they put a village there anyway I don't know).

It was so hot, as soon as I arrived goats started approaching the car, I thought they were friendly. Turns out they just wanted the shade that had just arrived.
