I'm sitting wearing just a towel while all my clothing is in the washing machine. I'm taking precautions against carrying bedbugs. I saw one this morning in my room, and found four bites on my leg.

The woman at the albergue here has been wonderful; spraying my backpack with bedbug spray, loaning me a nice large towel to wear, and getting my clothes in the wash.

Fortunately I arrived here about noon, so have plenty of time to get this taken care of.
So, I guess I'm getting the full Camino experience! And to top it off, it rained for most of my walk today.

But it was a short day, just over 13 miles. And I found that the rain poncho/coat that I made works great - especially paired with my umbrella. 😀Baca selengkapnya

Episcopal Palace Astorga

I had plenty of time and energy to walk around town today. Astorga has one of the three Gaudí designed buildings outside of Catalunya.

I was much more impressed with this one than the one in León. It's interesting to see how his style developed over timeBaca selengkapnya

20 miles from León to Hospital de Obrigo
Stayed at Albergue Verde, where they do a vegetarian dinner that was really good. It was so nice to have lots of vegetables after so much bread, meat and potatoes. They also had an evening yoga session that was very nice and relaxing.

I was going to try to get to Santiago by September 22, then walk three days to Finesterre, then bus back to Santiago on my birthday on the 26th, because my friends Tom and Diane said that they would like to buy me birthday dinner, but I think that would be pushing it too much.Baca selengkapnya

I've been wondering who paints all the yellow arrows that guide the way on the Camino. As I was leaving León this morning I found one arrow painter at work.
And here are some examples of arrows that I've seen along the way. It can be unpredictable as to where to look for the arrows. They are on the road, on rocks, on lamp poles and sides of buildings.Baca selengkapnya

PelancongIt's about $250/night I've had a couple of hotel rooms along the way, but only about 30€ to 50€ a night. Yesterday I had a really nice foot and leg massage too. 😊

Long hot walk

21.5 miles from Itero de la Vega to Carrión de los Condes
I walked with 3 nice Irish guys, 2 brothers and the son of one of them. I really wanted to get to the "big" town of Carrión de los Condes, population 2500, rather than stay on another tiny town so that I could have access to a supermercado, farmacia, etc. I'm not sure I would have walked this far solo, so I was very happy to have company on my walk today. I'm going to stick to sub 20 mile days at least until I get to León later this week.Baca selengkapnya

12.6 miles Hontanas to Itero de la Vega
Though I ended up walking 15 miles because I left my poles at a rest stop and had to walk 1.2 miles each way to retrieve them. 😀

Itero de la Vega is another tiny town along the Camino; population about 185. But it is home to Itero Rock, a big music festival in August that I just missed.

Ruins of the Convento de San Anton

I left early this morning and came upon the ruins of this Convent that was built in the 12yh century just as the sun was coming up.
Fortunately, a group of people who had started walking at 3 am were passing by just as I began, because it was really dark. I'm glad that I brought a headlamp with me.Baca selengkapnya
