If it could go wrong, it probably did

    1 maja, Anglia ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

To be fair, it started out pretty well. Relaxed start to the day, dropped Kairi at her holiday home, and a straightforward drive to Heathrow.
Light afternoon meal in the lounge and time to chill.
We even boarded the plane and were ready to go slightly early.
And then it started to unravel.
Firstly, we pushed back late because another plane had stopped on the runway.
We joined the queue to take off and exactly as we got to the turn onto the runway, we turned the opposite way. Turns out, the aircon wasn't working at the back of the plane and in the cockpit and it was becoming unbearably hot. So time for a system reset. 30 mins ish and no dice, back to stand so we can all get off and be put on another plane.
The stand was a remote stand, so buses, which took another 30 mins or so to arrive.
At this point, you roll with it, shit happens. It's fine. Everyone gets on the buses and we're taken to the terminal to get more info. Except, the buses go to the wrong place - arrivals instead of back to departures. So now a plane load of people are stuck at arrivals with no-one there to help.
After nearly an hour stood by flight connections, we had been told, yes there'll be a new plane today, oh sorry, no there won't. You're being rebooked.

Ok, understandable. And we're rebooked onto a flight the next morning and given a voucher for hotel. Good. Through immigration quickly straight to baggage claim. We were in the first few so got a seat. And we waited, and waited, and waited. Some flights got announcements saying there were technical issues and getting estimates for the bags to arrive. Ours was not mentioned. Eventually, after an hour of waiting for the bag (2 hours after we got off plane, nearly 4 hours after we got on the plane in the first place) they announced the hold door was stuck and there was a delay getting the bags off. Not sure how that took 2 hrs to figure out.

Then not too long later they said, 10 minutes. As it was almost 9pm, I left Heath waiting for the bag and I went through customs to grab some food for dinner from M&S.

At this point the prospect of some mini Colin caterpillar cakes was sustaining me, so i grabbed some real food, and went to the cake section. Noooooooo, no Colins 🐛 😢 Another disaster (arguably the biggest).

Got the food and went to wait at the barrier for Heath (well past the 10 mins estimated for bag delivery). No bag. No bag 30 mins later. Some people had bags, but others including us, had no bag arrive.

And they weren't sure if the bag had gone to T2 ready for morning flight, or if it had been put on a plane to Copenhagen. So off I trotted to boots to buy some toiletries while Heath waited at the service desk in baggage reclaim.

So an hour and a half after I'd left Heath, he came through customs, with no bag. 5 1/2 hours after we'd got on the plane.

Bag of essential toiletries in hand and the food from m&s we headed to get the shuttle bus to hotel. Only to find the next one wasn't for an hour because it was so late.

Ended up sharing a taxi with someone else off our aborted flight. To get to the hotel at 10.30pm. But at least I had been able to get food and toiletries.

Long day, not really getting anywhere.

  • We made it

    2 maja, Dania ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Up early and back to airport. Different terminal, different lounge, different airline. Decent breakfast in the lounge and not too long to wait.

At the gate they said that the bag had been loaded so would be arriving with us.

So far so good for attempt 2.

Once in the plane it was all much more normal, left gate on time, got to runway and actually took off. Result! We were actually on our way.

We even landed slightly early and immigration was super-quick and friendly. Headed to baggage claim to see whether the bag had really made it. We literally just walked from plane and straight through immigration, and a quick toilet stop and the bag was already going round on the carousel. Woop woop. We had clean clothes again.

I had a detour to the metro card topped machines to check the balances on our 5 different cards, and then jumped into a taxi to our destination.

Got there and settled in to relax with Jakob and his son Alexander before the others came home from school and work.
We even got in a short walk around the area where we lived last year.

Once everyone was home, we packed up the cars and headed over the Øresund bridge to Sweden to go to the summerhouse for a couple of nights.

We chilled in the garden over drinks, then took a walk to the water. Beautiful.

Dinner was bbq and desert was 4 star Michelin prepared by the flower girl, a giant bowl of candy 🍬 🍫🍭🍫🍬

Heath also found his new favourite chocolate. A Plopp bar. 🤣🤣🥰

    Such a better day.

  • Castles, forest, and more.

    3 maja, Szwecja ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

We had a long lie in, unexpected all round but needed.

Super breakfast to start the day, and just chilled and relaxed. We headed out in both cars, and I got to drive a manual for the first time in a while not too bad, only accidentally over-revved twice (sorry Jakob). Didn't stall and didn't miss a gear change.

We went off to visit Torup castle and salk round the really pretty gardens. There was ven a pancake making house for the girls of the house (back in the olden days it seems that the playhouse in the garden was useful).

There was some fun while various people tried out the wooden stilts, and a near miss with one falling stilt nearly taking out Augusta.

After that narrow escape, the kids tackled the obstacle course, and then we went on the Harmony loop walk. No fighting allowed.

That was a lovely walk in the forest, and lots of fun messing around with William and Augusta. W even tried making home made pesto in his mouth out of beech leaves 🍃 😳. Not sure we'll be trying that.

A break for a drink, some very out of date chocolate (still good) and some more larking about, juggling and a shoulder ride.

Then we headed to shopping mall to pick up a few bits for dinner and for us to buy the Swedish chocolate we like (in date too 😅).

Back to the house for a snack and a rest before Jakob's kids arrived for dinner. Dinner was a superb spread of tapas (forgot to take a photo) followed by awesome ice cream. Jakob's kids had brought their dog Pluto with them, so we had cuddles and belly rubs, and Heath found a satisfying outlet for missing Kairi. It's not the same, but it's something. Pluto was so cute and friendly and happy, so a lovely addition to dinner company.

After dinner we mostly hung out playing with a 3D puzzle, chatting through my company website that Jakob was providing thoughts on, and chilled til bedtime.

    A fab day.

  • Happy Star Wars day, but with more chill

    4 maja, Szwecja ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

Jakob had to leave early to go on a trip, so was well on his way by the time we got up. More nice food for breakfast with a slow paced start to the day. What holidays of all lengths are about.

It was May 4th, so Star Wars day, and got a nice little message from a fellow Star Wars fan friend whi is just educating his young daughter in the ways of Star Wars. So sweet.

After breakfast and packing up most things ready to head back to Copenhagen, we went for a walk around the wetlands. There were tons of geese and a strange barking boy chasing them off. Pretty funny really, so much like Kairi when she's chasing the birds, just not as fast (as he himself said).

The weather was kinda mixed, rainy first thing, then bits of sun and cloud all mixed up.

After the walk and a bite to eat, we packed up the cars and Heath lovingly held the lego flower bouquet that we had been rebuilding after ithey had met an accident. He knew it needed to be transported lovingly, else he'd have been in trouble. One braking moment nearly met with lego flower disaster but Heath rode it out safely. 😌

We unpacked the stuff from cars, and Camilla, William and Augusta stook us to the little apartment that we are staying in for the last 2 nights of this trip. It's cute and everything you need, and waaaay cheaper than a regular hotel, but keeps us out of the way so we're not a distraction for the kids on school nights.

We took a stroll, and had a much needed rest before heading out to have dinner. As we are near to where we lived last year, we chose to eat at one of the old favourites, Cafe Nöa'h. The food is really tasty and Heath happily tried a new menu item, French Onion burger (burger with the onions from a French onion soup) which may have been the sloppiest hand-held meal I've ever seen. But he enjoyed it.

After dinner, we picked ked up some ice cream for dessert and settled in to watch some of yesterday's F1 before bedtime.

  • Pastries at breakfast Ice cream at lunch

    5 maja, Dania ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

A quiet day wandering Copenhagen streets.

Pastries were the obvious way to start the day. We shared a few different ones so we could maximise the options.

After breakfast we got the harbour bus into the city, and then took a wander around near the town hall. We even stopped in to the Potter Clarkson office to say hi to my former colleagues and deliver a few goodies to them (have to keep up the reputation of best goodies delivery person).

After drop-off we continued the wandering and went in various stores on our normal to-do list, all the geeky shops basically - comics, games, lego and electronics.

All the wandering happened to leave us near the Vaffelbageren ice cream shop at Nyhavn, so it would have been wrong not to have an ice cream. So that became lunch.

We had the ice cream in the gorgeous sunshine and then took our time to walk back to Islands Brygge where we were staying. All the aalking and sunshine is thirsty work so we stopped for a drink, again enjoying the sunshine and the ducks chasing each other around through the outside seating.

The rest of the day was just chilling, had a cup of tea with William and Camilla, before catching up on the F1 from the day before and then going out for all you can eat sushi for dinner with Camilla, William and Augusta at Wami Sushi.

The food looked so good and I was so hungry I forgot to take any pictures of it 😅 but it was delicious and we had a great dinner with lots of laughs.

Perfect way to end a trip.

  • Home 🏡

    6 maja, Anglia ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

Last day and basically just travelling.

Got up promptly so we could drop off some things at Camilla's and say goodbye to her and the kids.

Then we headed off on different expeditions, I headed to Andersen bakery to pick up pastries to take home and some for breakfast. We saved the best pastries til last. Heath went to the supermarket to buy the final bits of food we wanted to take home.

When I was back, we had our Andersen pastries breakfast. Mmmmm 🤤🤤🤤🤩🤩🤩🤤🤤🤤 and then packed up to head to the airport.

Everything was very smooth. Nice relaxed morning and onto the plane and ready to leave early.

Flight itself was good, and the pudding i had onboard was super yummy, albeit a bit runny so I dropped a load down my clean top 🙈

When we landed it was quick through and this time the bag was quick and we weren't waiting forever in Heathrow baggage claim. So far, so good.

Then it went a little awry. We couldn't get out of the car park, then when we did the motorway was closed for 3 junctions so needed to go on a detour, so ended up getting home a lot later than planned.

Still, Kairi was super excited to see us when we did finally get home, and after she stipped zooming around she had to snuggle under the blanket with us.

A lovely long weekend but nice to come home to so much love and joy.
