  • Lunch in Hahndorf

    June 21, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Pit stop on the way back from whale watching in a German town, created in the 19th century by Lutheran migrants, the town is mini-Germany in the Adelaide hills!

  • First Night in Hong Kong!

    June 22, 2018 in Hong Kong ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Well today has been an absolute whirlwind, but one of my best days by far! From getting up at 4am (yes it was a struggle), delayed flight, and having the chattiest passenger ever sitting next to me, although I think I was somewhat worse! I finally made it to Hong Kong only 2 hours later than planned. After checking in at the hotel myself and my new friend from the flight ventured out into hot humid city centre of Hong Kong, no joke it was over 25C and nearly 90% humidity, I was ready to melt. Starting out in the North side of Kowloon we walked over 15KM, snaking our way through the maze of markets, bright lights, neon light, questionable food and beautiful back streets! Ending up at the waterfront overlooking one of the most impressive skyline I have ever seen. My first night in Hong Kong was absolutely amazing and is something I will definitely remember!Read more

  • Ferry to Macau

    June 23, 2018 in Hong Kong ⋅ 🌧 29 °C

Up early this morning to travel to Macau, another city state off China. Part of the Portuguese empire until it’s sovereignty was returned to China, Macau is now widely known for being the gambling capital of the world, and the only place in China where it is legal to gamble!Read more

  • Rainy Macau

    June 23, 2018 in Macao ⋅ 🌧 28 °C

I’ve arrived in Macau and it is chucking it down, hoping that it clears up soon so I don't have to keep diving into shops, and I do mean diving, with this rain Macau will soon be a swimming pool!

  • Ruins of St. Paul's

    June 23, 2018 in Macao ⋅ 🌧 25 °C

Well the clouds have finally stopped having a hissy fit and I can finally explore the old town of Macau starting with the ruins of St Paul, dating back to the 17th Century and a UNESCO world heritage sit.Read more

  • Walking around Macau (1)

    June 23, 2018 in Macao ⋅ 🌧 25 °C

The way that Portugue's culture and architecture is sown in with Chinese and Asian architecture is just fascinating- at time I think I'm in Madeira! Also the use of bamboo here is amazing, I've seen sky scrapers under construction with bamboo used as scaffolding, really keeping old school building techniques alive, and the use of bamboo to build a stage at the Na Tcha Temple.Read more

  • View to Mainland China!

    June 23, 2018 in Macao ⋅ 🌧 25 °C

Crazy how close I am to mainland China and the home of Communism, the gap is smaller than the River Mersey. Yet on one side of this border capitalism is king and on the other it is communism!

  • Obligatory Casino Stop

    June 23, 2018 in Macao ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

I suppose while I am in the gambling capital of the world, and the only city in China were gambling is legal I have to actually visit one. I honestly can't describe the sheer size of this casino, it had over 6 floors packed with tables. I watched one women exchange over $10,000HKG (£1,000) for casino chips and then proceed to loose nearly $5,000 (£500) instantly on a table! The amount of money flying round was just crazy, and thought I only went in to get a free ticket to the ferry terminal (cheeky hack I know) and ended up staying in there for over an hour!Read more

  • Walking around Hong Kong (1)

    June 24, 2018 in Hong Kong ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Starting the morning walking around the CBD of Hong Kong. The opulence and modernism of the skyscrapers is just crazy, but the fact that they are side by side with buildings that express sheer poverty is mind blowing. Hong Kong may be seen as the centre of free trade, but its problem of income inequality is easy to see.Read more

  • Tram to Victoria Peak

    June 24, 2018 in Hong Kong ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Well I've made it to the Tram that will take me to Victoria peak, it is over 120 years old and is a fantastic way to travel to the top. It also supplies an amazing visual illusion, half way up the skyscrapers of the Hong Kong Central seem to tilt inwards towards the mountain, it is so surreal and has to be seen to be believed!Read more

  • View from the peak!

    June 24, 2018 in Hong Kong ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Well what an absolutely amazing view this is from the peak, best way to see the size of Hong Kong and the beauty of its skyscrapers, it has the highest density of skyscrapers anywhere in the world, with over 1,300 skyscrapers, and well over 7,000 high-rise buildings, which staked on top of each other would reach over 300KM in the sky! You can thank the tour guide for those facts ha!Read more
