  • Rainbow falls

    30 de janeiro de 2020, Nova Zelândia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

A really special hike in Kerikeri. Both Sam and Donna told us this was spectacular but it was more beautiful than we had imagined. Something I find impressive in NZ is the dedication to forest preservation. One of these photos includes the shoe cleaning huts that are at entries and exits to hikes. You scrape your shoes off, brush them and then spray your shoes with disinfectant to make sure nothing dangerous is spread to different parts of the country.Leia mais

  • Haruru falls

    30 de janeiro de 2020, Nova Zelândia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Following our Kerikeri hike we went and bought some groceries and then headed to Piahia to have a picnic at Haruru falls. Jason and I loved the beautiful shade and Florence loved that wild chickens greeted us and tried to eat with us. Haruru falls was packed with visitors even though it was 33C.Leia mais

  • Piahia

    30 de janeiro de 2020, Nova Zelândia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Just a quick stop for groceries and mileage and an attempt to find drinking water. This town is right on the water and seems a bit like Wasaga (but prettier). If we were coming again we would plan a night to stay here.and dine by the water.Leia mais

  • Cable Bay

    30 de janeiro de 2020, Nova Zelândia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

This was a spur of the moment stop to stretch our legs and take in this beautiful beach. We were stunned by how gorgeous it was when we drove by. The day was sitting around 33C and we were all hot and ready for the sea breeze and to dip our feet in the water.Leia mais

  • Cape reinga

    31 de janeiro de 2020, Nova Zelândia ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

A stunning morning. We woke up at 5 and packed up from our airbnb in the dark to head right north. Cape Reinga is the furthest north you can go in NZ. We saw the sun starting to rise on our drive, visited the Cape Reinga lighthouse and did a little hike and then back in the car. We have been living off of coffee and beer and gatorade because drinking water is hard to find and only served in tiny glasses so far. As we left this hike we found a refill station and filled up 10 powerade bottles and Florence's mug.Leia mais

Roadside stalls are everywhere and so far seem to have the best food. After Cape Reinga we pulled over here and got flat whites, real ice cream with real berries and some "pies" for lunch. We've been told NZ is famous for their meal pies so we picked up a seafood pie and steak pie to enjoy later in the day.Leia mais

    31 de janeiro de 2020, Nova Zelândia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Random stop to stretch our legs and get some air. This stretch of road was curvy and Jason drives quick and I was definitely getting car sick, but he says it was very fun to drive. NZ also seems to be the creators of the funniest signs I have ever seen.Leia mais

  • The busy bean

    31 de janeiro de 2020, Nova Zelândia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Another little pull off to stretch our legs. We definitely planned too much driving yesterday. Florence started getting squirelly and sweaty and we were both tired from our early start. This little hike beside a food truck showed us more beautiful country and let Florence talk to lots of people.Leia mais

  • Red Beach Holiday Park

    31 de janeiro de 2020, Nova Zelândia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Our first night in an official holiday park! Laundry, showers and a homemade sandwich were all on the agenda. Florence LOVED that there were ducks trying to steal her food, until one DID steal her pepper, and then she chased it crying "mine". The duck dropped the pepper and Florence tried to eat it, but I saved her. All of this meant Jason essentially set up our campsite, took down our campsite and made dinner on his own.
While each of us showered Florence had the chance to play at the playground and she loved the slide and climbing the play set. I could definitely tell she has grown up and become more co-ordinated since last having the opportunity to be on a playground.
Finally before bed we walked to the beach but Florence was overtired and desperately afraid that we were going to go in the water so we ended up just going back to our site to put her to bed. It worked out though because Jason and I had the chance to sit together and talk and have a drink just the two of us.

    1 de fevereiro de 2020, Nova Zelândia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

A sleepy baby meant we didn't make ourselves breakfast and then we were starving. We pulled over for one restaurant, but it ended up being closed so we went to what I thought was going to be like variety store hot dogs. Turns out they had amazing coffee and breakfast pies so we had the chance to sit outside together and eat before finishing our drive to Hamilton.Leia mais

  • Zealong tea estate

    1 de fevereiro de 2020, Nova Zelândia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

I like breweries, but I love tea and this stop was completely selfish. A ....teaery? Tea estate? Tea field? That started in 95 with just a few plants and is now massive. You can sign up for tours or high tea but just from the website they looked fancier than anywhere we should have Florence for prolonged periods of time. We wandered the gardens and explored the shop. My sweet little girl kept dive bombing the shop woman with hugs and ended up getting me free tea because she was so cute😂Leia mais

    1 de fevereiro de 2020, Nova Zelândia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

We had plans to do a lunchtime river cruise with kiwi bbq but Florence had not slept and was miserable and we didn't want to be those people on a boat for 90 minutes, or stress ourselves out worrying about her behaviour. Turns out today, love looks a lot like naps in shady parking lots and reading and writing in silence.Leia mais

    2 de fevereiro de 2020, Nova Zelândia ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Our search for good drinking water continues, and our camp made coffee tasted terrible so we pulled into this little place to grab more. It was affordable and delicious. Jason loves that all the to go coffee mugs and lids in NZ are compostable.Leia mais

After a long drive we arrived in Rotorua and our first stop was Kuirau Park - a free park in the middle of the city that features various geothermal features. • Rotorua thermal holiday park

    2 de fevereiro de 2020, Nova Zelândia ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

We checked in and were delighted with the amenities at our park. Kitchen, bathrooms and laundry for every 10 campsites or so, plus beautiful geo thermal pools to relax in. Both my nerves and Jason's were shot from the morning so we each took the opportunity to try out the pools and have a shower. Florence was supposed to be sleeping but it seems the espresso beans did their thing. This campground did not have much grass or a toddler friendly playground so it would have been challenging to spend much time here with an awake Florence.Leia mais
