  • Tom Sawyer RV

    June 27, 2020 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 88 °F

Disclaimer – I’m not having Glenn proof read all my entries.

Our first Official Road Trip, and I’m not going to lie. It was a tough and difficult day.

It started out the night before, where Glenn and I decided that we would rent a U-Haul dolly to get the Sion up to Indiana and I wouldn’t have to drive the Sion at all. We signed the contract. Glenn drove the RV to get the dolly hooked up and the lights on the RV were not working right. Long story short, U-Haul couldn’t let us leave with their dolly in this condition. So we went back to plan B. I would drive – follow ahead or follow behind.

We left LA Prada at 6:30. First stop was a Flying J/Pilot, where we get 5cents off with our GoodSam award card. But first we had to find out how to use it. And the closest Flying J was about 30 miles away. This was our first time to see how filling the tanks work. Glenn maneuvered the RV great. I used the bathroom and then got breakfast at McDonalds. It took the order 15 minutes, so I asked for a free hash brown. We stopped at the new Roadside park where we were the day before with mom and dad. Glenn and I had our breakfast while I made a phone call to the Tom Sawyer RV park in West Memphis, Arkansas. The office doesn’t open until 10, so I had to call later. Boom. One night on the mighty Mississippi River.

It was rough driving. There was lots of traffic on the road. Glenn and I stopped numerous times for me to take a potty break. We never really stopped for lunch. I grabbed a granola bar out of the RV and ate that along the road.

We arrived at Tom Sawyer RV park around 3:30pm. Perfect. I had enough time to “set up house” for our first visitors. Karen and Carl Martinsen, severed 30+ years in Guatemala and have retired in the Memphis area. They came over for dinner. I quickly boiled some eggs and made tuna fish salad sandwiches. Karen brought us a loaf of bread. We had that plus some delicious watermelon.

We had a great visit with Karen and Carl. We talked for about 3 hours. It was good to see them.

Being here on the Mississippi River reminds me of the time I was at Camp Fire Camp in DeSoto, Texas and my counselor read us the stories of Huckaberry Finn and Tom Sawyer. I’ll never forget them. Also, at night, we could see and hear the long barges navigate the river. We slept with the air off (occasionally it would kick in).

Now for day 2. We are packing up now to head on to Indiana.

  • Stocking up

    June 29, 2020 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

While Glenn and Jon drove to Lafayette to purchase the tow dolly (Praise the Lord, I will not have to drive long distances anymore), I went to the local grocery store to pick up on much needed items.

We are current in the small town of Nashville,Indiana so the prices were pretty steep. I got the essentials like bread milk and cereal. I took a picture and sent to Glenn so that if he is in a store, he wouldn’t get the same thing.

Around 11am, I finally had a bowl of cereal and strawberries.

I did watch East White Oak 8am morning challenge by Scott Boerckel and then the 12noon Neil and Vela show.

I worked on putting lining paper on the shelves- the kind of stuff that doesn’t move.

I fixed a sandwich and I’m waiting for Jon and Glenn to return for their lunch sandwich.

We are staying at the KOA Brown county. Very nice facility. Kinda old and run down. We are parked on a slight hill.

Glenn bought some adult size yellow legos to level out the RV.

He purchased some locks for the car dolly and other “men stuff” for the little tweaking he is doing to the RV.

By the way, I can’t wait to name the RV...in a week or so. Any suggestions?Read more

  • Lunch, a tray and Facebook live

    June 30, 2020 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

Freddie’s- we split the hamburger. Pretty good....

Then we talked to the manager and asked if we could buy a tray. I need one for the RV (still need to name it). And to celebrate when the manager sold us the tray, we enjoyed a Turtle. Pretty good.

All the while we tuned into Vela for Northwest Bible Church Facebook live weekly devotion. Glenn held the fone to his ear to listen - I wish he would use the ear buds that I gave him for Father’s Day.

    July 4, 2020 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

Scott and Carol joined us all day at our RV (still needs to be named).

Glenn cooked hotdogs on the grill (borrowed from Ellen). Pork and beans, watermelon. Pretty good.

While Joel FaceTimed with Scott and Carol, I took a 2 hour nap. Everyone else sat in the RV and talked and played a new game they gave to us Pun-believeable.

We also played Zilch and LCR. Lots of laughs!

We threw steaks out on the grill. Fresh corn, tossed salad and humus. Had some great conversations, then we walked to the other side of the camp and watched the sunset, followed by sparklers.

    Happy 4th of July!

  • Visit with Bernice snd John

    July 5, 2020 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 86 °F

We stop by to see John and Bernice in Peoria. They live right overlooking the Illinois River. Beautiful house, wonderful conversation.

We met them on the NCL Spirit back in March. They were on the same 6th deck with us and they would attend the church service we held each Sunday and then in the middle of the week, they would come when things got challenging with the Covid-19 situation. Bernice shared often during the service.

They were also on our flight back to Miami on March 22, taking up the roll just behind us.

It was good to reconnect and learn new stuff from them. They are familiar with RGBI, Wycliffe Bible Translators and others. We talked about Glenn growing up on the mission field in Mexico.

We had a lovely chat and they showed us their historic home snd gave us a little history lesson of its occupants.

We’ve had a full week here at Kamp Komfort. We’ve done several zoom calls. And we’ve had to sit in the car at the church’s parking lot to use their WiFi.

We’ve made several runs to the local Walmart store to get food.

Today we bought a small Bluetooth wireless speaker for the RV - for Glenn’s birthday.

Yesterday, Glenn and I went walking down the country road. Several days ago, the Boerckels had us over for breakfast.

  • Day of Garage Sale

    July 11, 2020 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

Yesterday was a day of swimming and today we did some major garage saling.

I held Annie for 2 hours as she slept. I fell asleep too.

Lucy joined us in the RV for the afternoon. After a movie in the basement, Lucy stayed overnight. Emily stayed overnight last night and we played sequence.

During the afternoon, it stormed and lightening. And even in the evening, as laying in bed, the wind was pretty strong. The RV was rockin and rollin. Like being on a roller coast ride.
