    November 16, 2023 in Bermuda

Bermuda is very British in some ways, and tropical in others. They drive on the left and have Pelican crossings. But everything is pastel
colours, especially the houses and even the fire station and the buses! There are palm trees everywhere, and it’s warm. 😊

Went to visit the famous fort but it was closed! Walked through the traditional Victoria Park with its bandstand.

We had a look at Wesley Place, where stands the ‘When Voices Rise’ statue by local artist Chelsey Trott. It was made to commemorate the Freedom Boycott of 1959 when Bermudans refused to go to the segregated theatres. After that segregation ended.

Also looked at City Hall and the Rotary Clock, then went up the tower of Holy Trinity Cathedral, courtesy of the Bishop, Nick Dill who has 6 Children including 4 sons living in England (one in Bristol and one in London). Nick is also Michael Douglas’s cousin, we found out later. (Michael has about 70 relatives on the island and his mother is from one of the oldest Bermudan families, dating from the 1600s).

155 steps up but great views from the tower!
