    Melaka

    Before we finish our Malaysia trip, we make one more stop in historical Melaka. An important port town in the 16th - early 19th century and therefore subject to power struggles between the Portuguese, Dutch and British. The Dutch influence is still to be seen in Jonker street and the history museum housed in the former city hall - Stadthuys.

    Nowadays the beautiful city hall area is filled with bike taxi’s with innocent looking carts decorated with cute pluches, Hello Kitty, Doraemon, Pikachu, Baby Shark, Spiderman. But once they are on the move, they terrorise the streets with their loud music and devastating beats (tip: turn on the sound of the video), apparently it is part of the experience…..

    We head back to KL and actually our trip is ending here. BUT as our return 🥹 flight is from South Korea, we still have 4 days to go back where our adventure started, SOUL 😁😋!!!

    Seoul again - back to where it started

    Annyonghaseyo Seoul!!

    Nice to be back in South Korea and Seoul after around 4 months to spend the very last days of our mega trip here. Other than a few activities that we didn’t do before, such as the National Museum of Korea, sunset from the Seoul Namsan Tower (including the hike in the burning sun 🥵) with an amazing view on the city, tasting national drinks ricewine Soju and Makgeolli, we took the relax approach with Korean BBQ, kimchi, ice cream, coffee, bubble tea, special dumplings (while eating we found out in a Michelin Star awarded restaurant) and more.

    Last but not least some souvenirs shopping in markets, Toy Street, supermarkets, department stores. So with full bellies, with full souvenirs-filled backpacks (even bought an extra trolley) and new memories full with unforgettable adventures, we are sad and happy to return from metropole Seoul to the other one… Hillywood 🤣!!

    Best of….

    We are back home after 143 days, 4,5 months, 54 footprints, 512 pictures, 5 countries, 59 different sleeping places (hotel/guesthouses/resorts/apartments/house/tent/family/friends) and countless memories.

    No doubt it was fun, fascinating, adventurous, eye-opening, inspiring, relaxing, playful, explorative, valuable, a (once in a) life(time) experience, and unforgettable. But at the same time it was also intense, frustrating, stressful, difficult and challenging. In short, one big ADVENTURE!! After serious dinner discussions, we came up with some favorites of our trip.

    Thanks for following the Tiki 🐭 🐭 🐭 🐭 family!! A few more days to settle in before ‘normal life’ - school, daycare, work - starts. But after such a trip, we are pretty zen (like Milo in the picture 🧘).

    PS: There is a neighborhood (named after a small island) called Pulau Tikus in Penang, Malaysia 🤣.

    Most comfy apartment - Full fridge, swimming pool, tv (Indra’s & Pat’s, Jakarta)

    Best sunset 🌅- Gili Kedis (Lombok), Milo: Coco Beach (Senggigi, Lombok)
    Best sunrise 🌄- Julia: Bromo (Java), Kids: Kelimutu Volcano (Flores), Kun: Rinjani (Lombok)
    Best breakfast - Julia: Granola (Bali), Kids: Blueberry pancakes (Lombok), Kun: Japanese bento box
    Most fun dinner 🍽 - Sushi 🍣 served by bullet trains 🚅 (Kobe)
    Best drink 🍹 - Kids: Bubble (boba) tea, Julia: , Kun: Sake (Kanazawa, Japan)
    Best food 🍱 - Julia: Nasi Campur blue rice (Bali), Milo: Wagyu (Tokyo), Kun: keiseki lunch (Kyoto), Yuna: Korean BBQ (Jeju).
    Best tropical🌴 fruit - Kids: Durian (Musang King, Kuala Lumpur), Julia: Dragonfruit , Kun: Mango (Kuala Lumpur)
    Best hike 🥾🚶 - Heundeul Bawi in Seoraksan National Park (South Korea), Kun: Rinjani (Lombok)
    Best waterfall - Biryong Pokpo in Seoraksan National Park (South Korea)
    Best coffee ☕️ shop - Julia: CafeTravel (Seoul), Kun: Siphon coffee (Kyoto)
    Best cake 🍰 - Matcha Baumkuchen (Kyoto)
    Best boat 🚤 tour - Komodo tour
    Best animal spotted - Julia: Dolphins 🐬, Rest: Komodo dragons 🐉
    Best ice cream🍦- Milo: Matcha soft ice, Yuna/Julia: Mango boba soft ice, Kun: Pistache soft ice
    Best mall 🏬 - Pondok Indah Mall for food/shopping/haircut/kids playgrounds (Jakarta)
