The ship docked this morning in our first Japanese port, Otaru, in Hokkaido. There were several people on the dock welcoming us for our overnight stay.

Sapporo Beer Factory - a red brick building of significance in Sapporo. All such buildings are marked with a red star - this one on the chimney and the facade. Oktoberfest is about to start.

Next door to the beer factory was a shopping mall, so we went exploring for a bit (didn't want to get lost). Found lobster bisque chips and a man directing traffic.

TV Tower and Observation Deck

The TV Tower has now been replaced by transmitters on the surrounding mountains. The tower still remains as an observation deck giving 360 views of Sapporo. Its construction is like the Eiffel Tower.

Odori Park is 1.5km in length and 105m wide. It's a popular retreat for visitors and city residents. The park is the site of the Sapporo Snow Festival with its famous ice sculptures.

So many bikes in Sapporo - it's flat in the city and easy to navigate. There are a significant number of electric cars because the city is quiet with no smog.
