Heading for Dangerous Water

Packed the bike and left Virginia City in a light rain, a preview of the rest of the day's ride. I reserved a room in Baker on the Nevada/Utah border but got a call just before I left and was told they overbooked and I didn't have a room so Ely was the nearest place I could find to stay.

As I was riding across Nevada I was reminded of my first cross country motorcycle trip in 1979. I had just returned from the Philippines and shipped my Honda 550 Super Sport back with me. I was chuckling because the armored riding jeans I wear cost more than what I paid for that bike. My riding gear for that trip was a pair of Levi jeans, a down vest and jean jacket. I remember freezing going over Donner Pass and paying $4 for a gallon of gas. I also remember the bike struggling going over Donner and Vail passes. On that trip I rode I-80 and made the trip from Sacramento to Denver in two days.

Not sure what route I'll take from here, trying to stay off interstates. I'll figure it out tomorrow.Baca selengkapnya
