    The Kalta Minor Minaret is one of Khiva’s most iconic landmarks, instantly recognizable for its short, stout shape and vivid turquoise tilework.

    It was begun in 1851 with the ambition of becoming the tallest minaret in the Islamic world, planned to reach about 70 meters. However, the project was never completed, leaving the structure at just under 30 meters.

    Despite this, the minaret’s cylindrical form, completely covered in glazed blue, green, and white tiles with intricate patterns, has made it the enduring symbol of Old Khiva.
