• Azerbaijani flags fly everywhere

    Azerbaijan is a very nationalist country, and for this reason, flags are everywhere — hanging on buildings, under the arcades of the main street, painted on walls, and more.

    The flag dates back to 1920 and was restored in 1991 after independence from the USSR.

    The blue color represents the Turkic people, the red symbolizes progress, and the green indicates belonging to the Islamic faith. The crescent and star, besides being symbols of Islam, also recall the flag of Turkey, a great and historic allied of Azeibaijan.
