We witness a real Texas rodeo🤠

We head north to Denton to witness a real Texas rodeo. The locals crowd onto metal bleachers surrounding the arena, where various local farms compete in different events: catching a calf, guiding cows in order from 1 to 10, taming a wild horse 🐎.

All these events showcase mastery of the skills needed in traditional farm life, without causing any harm to the animals. A truly local and authentic experience.Read more

On the top floor, there was also a pool, which let us relax and unwind after walking for miles under the sun in Dallas and Fort Worth.

Delicious, but loaded with toppings, sauces, and cheese.

Barton Springs natural swimming pool🌊

Barton Springs is a famous natural swimming pool in Austin, fed by an underground river.
Thanks to the sweltering heat, the pool was very crowded, and we enjoyed a refreshing swim and some dives from the diving board. It was a very nice and relaxing afternoon.

Unfortunately, we had to leave early because it was closed ahead of schedule due to lightning.Read more

Terry Black's: the best BBQ of my life!

We stop to eat at Terry Black's Barbecue, one of the most famous and beloved spots in Austin, to try Texas BBQ 🍖🔥
Sliced and lightly smoked brisket, shank, pork ribs… everything incredibly tasty. The meat falls off the bone effortlessly.

Very expensive (over $70 per tray), but well-spent money as it was without a doubt the best BBQ of my life.Read more

Walking around Austin, we saw many fully autonomous Uber Eats robots delivering food. It’s fascinating how they can read pedestrian traffic lights, stopping when necessary and avoiding people.

The next day, we saw the self-driving cars from Waymo, fully autonomous taxis that take people to their destinations without human intervention. We tried to book one, but we did not manage.Read more

"Remember the Alamo"

The Mexicans besieged the Alamo for 13 days as part of the Texas War of Independence from Mexico.

The few Texans resisted but were ultimately annihilated. “Remember the Alamo” became a symbol in the following days, leading to Texas gaining independence about a month later, on April 21, 1836. ⚔️🇨🇱

About 10 years later, the Republic of Texas decided to join the United States, becoming the only U.S. state that chose to join voluntarily the US, as it was neither conquered nor purchased.

In 1960, the movie "The Alamo" by John Wayne was released, earning 7 Academy Award nominations.Read more

San Antonio isn’t just about the Alamo.
It’s the second-largest city in Texas, and the areas along the San Antonio River are very nice to chill and hav a drink.

To escape the August sun and heat, we find a spot at a riverside café, where we sip Coca-Cola and eat nachos under an umbrella that shields us from the sun.

Time to try the Mexican specialties🌯🇲🇽

In San Antonio, we are less than three hours from the Mexico border.
People speak Spanish, the fast-food staff are ALL Latino, and supermarkets sell Coca-Cola and Mexican food.

So we decide to try Mexican cuisine, we order a mix of everything for just $18.
The waitress arrives, sets up a folding table, and places on it every type of Mexican delight: empanadas, fajitas, quesadillas… 😋

Everything is delicious, and we leave the table extremely full and satisfied. Amazing place to eat mexican food (which is different from Tex-Mex).Read more
