I’m taking a Luxair flight for the first time, which will take me from Luxembourg to Rome, before catching the Norwegian flight to New York 🗽.

I have to admit, the sandwich with meat was really good, and shortly before landing, they served chocolates/candies. However the in-flight entertainment was almost nonexistent.Read more

Flying to the US with Norse: my opinion

Flying intercontinental on a low-cost airline for the first time.
It’s Norse, which for less than €600 in August, and under €400 in April, will get you round-trip to New York. And also WizzAir may enter this market soon, with a new London-New York flight.

Norse is a super low-cost airline: blankets, headphones, food, drinks, checked-in bag all cost extra. You need to be prepared and aware that it’s a no-frills service (Ryanair-style) that gets you from point A to point B at a very low price, with only the basics included.

Want to save money and don’t care about extras? Norse is perfect!
Want to travel comfortably with full service? Go for another airline and obviously be ready to pay more.Read more

Landed in New York! 🗽🇺🇸

We land in New York almost at midnight.
The border controls were relatively quick, and they didn’t ask us many questions.

The group splits up: Alessandro and I stay in New York, while the other three start the road trip from Memphis. We’ll meet again in New Orleans to continue the road trip together toward Texas.

We take a taxi and catch a glimpse of New York’s skyscrapers from afar.Read more

We were really lucky with the hotel.
Excellent and abundant breakfast, a room with views of the Long Island City buildings, a rooftop overlooking Manhattan, and the subway just a few meters away.

Visiting the MoMA🖼️

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) houses some of the most iconic modern and contemporary art.

The most famous is undoubtedly Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh, which is swarmed by tourists trying to photograph it.

But there are also masterpieces by other important artists like Picasso, Dalí, Magritte, Cézanne, and Monet.

In my opinion, it’s a must-visit when in New York.Read more

Times Square: one of the most famous squares in 🌎

Grand Central Terminal 🚉

Designed in Beaux-Arts style, with a monumental structure and stunning artistic details, Grand Central Terminal was inaugurated in 1913.

The turquoise ceiling is painted with the zodiac constellations in gold, and the doors leading to the platforms are beautifully decorated.
These details turn a simple train station into a museum visited by millions every year.Read more

The view of Manhattan from the ferry⛴️

Among the various ways to get around, in New York you can take ferries to travel between the different islands. The ferry offers an amazing view of both Manhattan’s and Long Island's skyline from the East River.

The ferry drops us off in Long Island, near the famous Pepsi-Cola sign, built on top of the old Pepsi bottling plant. From the dock, we head to Gantry Plaza State Park, a lovely riverside park in the city.Read more

We chose SUMMIT for the overall experience it offers, so we only admired The Edge from the street, easily recognizable by its overhanging tip jutting out above the city.Read more

The Vessel: The Honeycomb-Shaped Structure.

The Vessel is an architectural structure made up of 54 interconnected staircases and around 80 viewing platforms.

The structure resembles a honeycomb or a stylized vase, with complex geometric shapes, and it stands about 50 meters tall.

It’s fascinating how, with the right perspective, the skyscraper behind seems to fit perfectly inside The Vessel.
The Vessel is an architectural sculpture/structure made up of 54 interconnected staircases and around 80 viewing platforms.

The structure resembles a honeycomb or a stylized vase, with complex geometric shapes, and it stands about 50 meters tall.

A walk along the High Line🚶‍♂️

The High Line is an elevated urban park built on a former railway line from the 1930s.
It runs through New York City’s skyscrapers and offers a scenic walk of about 2 kilometers in a beautiful elevated garden.

At the end of the park, you’ll find the Chelsea area, home to the famous Chelsea Market.Read more

New York City Hall and the Woolworth Building

In Lower Manhattan, we admire the New York City Hall and, a short distance away, the Woolworth Building.

The Woolworth Building was completed in 1913 and was the tallest building in the world for 20 years, standing 240 meters tall. Even today, more than 100 years later, it remains one of the 50 tallest buildings in the US. Its neo-Gothic architectural style is inspired by European cathedrals.Read more

The Oculus

The Oculus is both a transportation hub and a shopping center, located just a few steps from the World Trade Center Memorial.

The building was designed by Calatrava and opened in 2016. Its unique shape is meant to resemble open wings, symbolizing rebirth after 9/11.Read more

One World Trade Center and the 9/11 Memorial

The 9/11 Memorial stands on the site of the Twin Towers attack.

At the footprints of the two towers, there are two enormous waterfalls covering over 4,000 square meters, with water cascading down the edges.
Around each fountain are metal plaques engraved with the names of nearly 3,000 victims.

Behind them rises the One World Trade Center, also called the Freedom Tower, inaugurated in 2014. It’s height of 541 meters tall (1,776 feet) is a clear reference to the year of American independence.

The 9/11 Museum is also located in the same area. The museum contains artifacts, photos, and stories of the tragic event and the rebuilding process. We didn’t go inside due to time constraints.

Finally, just a short distance away, there is a bronze plaque dedicated to the first responders who acted after the attack and to those who lost their lives during the rescue operations.Read more
