  • Penang National Park

    2. januar 2017, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Bus to Penang National Park on the North West coast which at 23 sq miles is the smallest in Malaysia, however is probably also the least visited judging by the overgrown, rugged and snake friendly jungle. Hiked for a couple of hours to get to a beautiful beach in a clearing where the jungle meets the sea on either side and turtles visit to lay eggs. Started raining for the return journey, making the trails a little more 'interesting '! Watching a group of cheeky otters trying to outwit guard dogs and attempting to steel a meal from the floating fish farms was also pretty entertaining.Les mer

  • Langkawi Island

    4. januar 2017, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

On the move again, but by ferry this time. Took a three hour journey on a full ferry northwards this morning. Heard it can be very rough and was two days ago so we were very relieved when it was a smooth crossing. We are staying at the main tourist area of the island and are very pleasantly surprised that it is a quiet, sleepy place that we really like. Enjoyed a swim at the beach this afternoon, then a dip in the 'plunge' pool before heading out for the evening. Impressed with the price of beer and spirit at last... It's a duty free island where you can pick up a litre bottle of Bombay Saphire for £7! Even better was the gin that is sold in a 3 litre box for £8. Needless to say, we finally had a beer with dinner.Les mer

  • Langkawi Island, North beaches by moped.

    5. januar 2017, Malaysia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

As the island has no public transport, we resorted to two wheels again - this time powered, which gave us the chance to find the out of the way places (James piloted, Louisa Nav'd but had to wear a childs Minions helmet as head too small!). As the island is 70km around the perimeter, roads are quiet and any drivers are very courteous. Explored the North of the island with its jungles, white sand beaches, inlets and rubber plantations. Many of the beaches were pretty much deserted until small boats arrived later in the day with day-trippers. Found a couple of impossibly beautiful locations (sorry but it's true and doesn't help when the UK weather is so dreich!) which the photos don't do justice to.Les mer
