    An evening in Winnipeg.

    We arrived later that day in Winnipeg. Our car is parked, we had dinner and took our bikes out to Nonsuch Brewing, a marvelous place!

    We’ve been cycling around the city, visiting the museum of human rights and in the evening we left Winnipeg - wanted to do some kilometers before going to bed. ;)

    We arrived early in the morning in Regina. It was colder than we expected - and windy! So we spent some time at Value Village (thrift shopping) and in a Café. Regina is nice - it seems like a big city from old western movies with a huge, beautiful legislative building. 😀

    Früh am Morgen und wir sind schon in Regina! Es war kalter dort als erwartet - und windig! Wir verbrachten also eine Zeit im “Value Village” (Second Hand Shopping, sehr lohnenswert hier!!) und in einen Café. Regina ist eine nette Stadt, sie wirkt etwas wie eine große Stadt aus einem Western-Film mit einem sehr großen, hübschen “Legislative Building”. 😀    Read more

    From the evening of the 18th until 20th (morning) we explored Calgary. We biked through the city and tried some lovely beers.
    Eddie (our car) stood on the street next to a park (for free). :)

    Canmore

    Our night spot in Canmore is THE spot to stay close to the Banff National Park - for free. It’s between stores and a railroad (so at night you can hear the the train), but it’s actually really nice. We always had to leave the spot between 7am and 9am (when parking is not allowed, but then again you get up early. 😉
    We stayed there for three nights.

    Unser Spot für die Übernachtung in Canmore ist DER Ort, an dem “sie” alle sind; nah am Nationalpark und frei. Zwischen Läden und der Bahn parkt man; kann die Toiletten und das WLAN nutzen, man hört aber auch die Bahn nachts fahren. Da zwischen 07.00Uhr und 09.00Uhr parken verboten ist, stehen wir immer früh auf. 😉

    Johnston Canyon

    The Johnston Canyon is one of the plenty famous hiking destinations in the Banff National Park. You can hike to the lower falls, to the upper falls and to the ink pots. We did the long track. It was a little bit challenging, but beautiful and it seemed like a long afternoon walk. I’d do it again. :)Read more

    Caste Mountain Lookout Trail

    Today we actually wanted to do the Wenkchemna Hike, starting at Lake Moraine. What fools we were. We knew that we shouldn’t go to Lake Louise (because it’s crowded), and we didn’t. But Lake Louise is next to Lake Moraine and crowded is not a word for how many people there were. Same situation at Lake Moraine - no parking if you haven’t arrived before (!) 6am. Okay - new plan. We’ll see what the Castle Mountain Lookout Trail has to offer. It was the best decision we could have made this day: a few people and an amazing view. :)

    Heute wollten wir eigentlich den “Wenichemna Hike” machen, welcher am Moraine-See beginnt. We naiv wir waren... uns war bewusst, dass der Louise-See sehr überfüllt sein soll, weshalb wir uns dagegen entschieden. Was wir nicht wussten war, dass die beiden Seen nah bei einander sind. Und “überfüllt” ist gar kein Wort dafür, wie viele Menschen dort waren - an beiden Seen. Man hätte vor 06Uhr morgens dort sein sollen für einen Parkplatz. Also: neuer Plan. Wir schauen uns den “Castle-Mountain-Aussicht”-Wanderweg an. Es war die beste Entscheidung des Tages: nur wenige Leute und eine großartige Aussicht. :)    Read more

    Wapta Falls

    After our hike we drove a bit - through Yoho National Park - to a spot we got recommended.
    We arrived at 5pm and we were lucky! One of the three spots was still free and it was a-mazing! A breathtaking view, a fire place, a picknick-table, a pit toilet - all for free! And there we’re so many people coming up here to see that all of the three spots were already taken... so lucky and so happy!!!🤗🥳
    (We made a fire and did an experiments - baking a bread. Although at first it didn’t seem to have worked out - we made an eatable bread! In a campfire!😱😀😍)

    Nach unserer Wanderung sind wir noch ein wenig gefahren - durch den Yoho Nationalpark - zu einem Camp-Spot, den wir empfohlen bekommen hatten.
    Wir kamen gegen 17Uhr an und hatten Glück! Einer der drei Spots war noch frei und es war so wunderbar! Ein atemberaubender Blick, eine Feuerstelle, einen Picknicktisch, ein (Plums)Klo - und alles kostenfrei! Nach uns kamen noch so viele dort hin und drehten wieder um, weil kein Platz mehr war... so ein Glück für uns! 🤗🥳
    (Wir machten noch ein Feuer an dem Abend und ein Experiment - Brot backen. Obwohl es anfangs nicht danach aussah, hatten wir ein essbares, leckeres Brot gebacken! In einem Lagerfeuer!😱😀😍)    Read more

    At Jasper National Park

    “Hidden camp spot” does not describe this. It was more than hidden. Directly after leaving Jasper National Park we turned right; there was a tiny dirt road. And at the end of it was was - again - a beautiful (free, ofc) camp spot and fire places. We cooked dinner, made a fire and called it a night.

    Ein “versteckter Campingplatz” beschriebt dieses Örtchen nicht ganz korrekt. Er war eher “sehr versteckt”. Nachdem wir de Jasper Nationalpark verlassen hatten, bogen wir rechts ab in den kleinen Sandweg. Am Ende des Weges gab es - mal wieder - einen wunderbaren (kostenlosen) Campingplatz mit Feuerstelle. Wir machten Abendessen und ein Feuer und gingen ins Bett.    Read more

    This morning we decided to “stay low”. The weather made it easy to stay inside, read a bit and have a lovely breakfast. Afterwards we hiked a bit around the mountains at our last night spot. Now we are in the capital of Alberta: Edmonton. Making plans for our next days drinking beer. So everything can happen! 😉

    Heute Morgen haben wir uns entschlossen, den Tag langsam anzugehen. Das Wetter war nicht so einladend und wir blieben im Auto, haben gelesen und entspannt gefrühstückt. Dann wanderten (eher “kraxelten”) wir noch in der Gegend um unseren Campingplatz herum, bevor wir nach Edmonton fuhren. Hier sind wir nun. Schmieden Pläne. Trinken Bier.
