    Last time sleeping in our Eddie-Car

    Since the day we arrived in Vancouver we tried to figure out how to sell our car. We wanted him to get some travelers as new owners, but for new owners you need to get the car through the (tough) out-of-province-inspection. And at first we failed. Some parts needed to be changed and that would have been expensive work done by that fully booked car-shop. Luckily our fried is an auto mechanic, has access to all these fancy car-tools and wanted to help us! So he and Nick fixed the car during the weekend while I sewed the rest of our curtains (with a sewing-machine, thats so much faster then by hand!!). On Tuesday Eddie got inspected again and he passed! Since we already found two guys who wanted to get Eddie, we made a deal, that they’d get him on Friday and we’ll be able to spend one last night out in the nature. So we drove out to Chiliwak and were one last time (for now) in the middle of nowhere, sleeping in our car. The next day we went for some hiking and were surprised by beautiful waterfalls.
    An amazing end to an awesome adventure with Eddie.

    Seit unserer Ankunft in Vancouver drehte sich viel um unseren Autoverkauf. Wir wollten, das Eddie weiterhin in Händen von Reisenden bleibt. Aber um ein Auto hier anzumelden, muss er durch einen (recht harten) Out-of-Province-Check. Leider sind wir beim ersten mal durchgefallen und die Reparatur-Kosten in der Werkstatt wären zu teuer geworden. Glücklicherweise ist unser Freund hier Automechaniker, hat Zugang zu allem möglichen (neustem) Werkzeug und wollte uns helfen! Also reparierten er und Nickels am Wochenende das Auto, während ich die Vorhänge zu Ende nähte (mit einer Nähmaschine, das geht so viel schneller als per Hand!!). Am Dienstag ging es dann zur zweiten Inspektion und ta-da! Er kam durch! Wir hatten mittlerweile Käufer gefunden, mit denen wir ausgehandelt hatten, dass wir noch ein mal in die Natur fahren können, bevor sie das Auto bekommen würden. Also fuhren wir nach Chiliwak, wo wir - mitten im Nichts - das letzte Mal im Auto schliefen. Am nächsten Tag ging es dann noch auf eine kleine Wanderung, wo wir durch einen verwunschenen Wald wanderten, bevor wir an super tollen Wasserfällen standen und staunten.
    Das war das schöne Ende, eines tollen kleinen Abenteuers mit Eddie.    Lue lisää

    Vancouver

    Today it´s been eleven days (!) since we arrived in Vancouver. A beautiful city, which we explored mostly by bike. But being here has not just been fun. We needed to sell Eddie, our car, because soon we will leave Canada. Nevertheless we made most of it! We are currently living in an apartment of some friends we met in the Yukon. Together we went out for dinner and swing-dancing, had fun fixing the car and we had a lovely Turkey-Dinner (with veggi-options) on Thanksgiving (thank you guys for all of that so much!). From the 18th on, Eddie goes his way with two (German) travellers, and we’ll enjoy this city a bit more on our bikes.

    Heute ist unser elfter Tag in Vancouver. Eine super schöne Stadt, die wir hauptsächlich auf dem Fahrrad erkundet haben. Aber nicht alles, was wir hier erlebt haben, war nur schön: Wir mussten Eddie, unser Auto, verkaufen, da wir bald Kanada verlassen werden. Seit dem 18.10. geht Eddie nun seinen Weg und wir genießen es hier noch ein wenig mit unseren Rädern durch den Regen zu fahren. 
    Wir wohnen in einer kleinen Wohnung von Freunden, die wir im Yukon kennengelernt haben. Mit den beiden zusammen waren wir schon ein paar Mal essen, East-Coast-Swing-Dance lernen und tanzen, haben unser Auto repariert und haben mal Thanksgiving mitgefeiert (Danke ihr Zwei!!!)!    Lue lisää

    Ka'au Crater

    While being on Oahu and enjoying summer, we were up for some hiking. So we looked into some blogs, where we could do a medium-level hike and found the Ka‘au Crater hike. Some people classified it as easy, some as medium. But wow, I think it’s at least medium, if not difficult (and amazing at the same time). We „walked“ through the jungle feeling like Indiana Jones, climbed up waterfalls and along the muddy small crater-ridge (with the help of ropes) - and were rewarded with an incredible view. Seriously! Even though we needed to walk back through the city and had muscle ache for the next three days, I’d definitely do this again. I mean... look at these pictures!!!

    Auf Oahu konnten wir uns ein wenig vom “Reisestress” erholen und den Sommer genießen. Dennoch können weder Nickels noch ich eine ganze Woche lang die Füße still halten, weshalb wir nach ein paar Wanderungen suchten - und die Ka‘au-Krater-Wanderung fanden. Auf manschen Blogs wurde sie als „leicht“ auf anderen als „medium“ eingestuft - ich weiß bis heute nicht wieso. „Mittel“ - okay. Aber leicht war sie auf keinen Fall. Es ging es durch den Dschungel á la Indiana-Jones, dann Wasserfälle hinauf und auf dem schmalen, matschigem Kraterkamm entlang (mit Hilfe von Seilen). Und es war ganz wunderbar (aber nicht „einfach“). Trotz einer weiteren „Wanderung“ wieder zurück zum Hostel und Muskelkater für die nächsten drei Tage, würde ich dort sofort wieder wandern gehen.     North Shore Camping

    For two nights we changed the location. We went out with our tent to go to the north-shore, to see what else Oahu has to offer. And it really is nice. Way less people (and I mean way way less), bigger waves, nice beaches,... it´s worth a trip. And since there is a bus going around the island (that can be used with a day ticket - although the busses unfortunately don’t seem to follow a schedule), it is - again - worth a trip.

    Für zwei Nächte sind wir auf die Nordseite der kleinen Insel gefahren und haben gecampt. Es wurde Zeit, das Zelt mal wieder auszupacken! Die andere Seite der Insel ist wunderschön. Genau wie auf der Wanderung sind so viel weniger Touristen unterwegs, es gibt tolle Strände und größere Wellen (was auch nicht schwierig ist). Und da mit mit dem normalen Tagesticket auf der ganzen Insel Bus fahren kann, war es auch gar nicht so schwer dort hin zu kommen! Leider werden keine Buspläne an den Haltestellen ausgehängt; ich fühlte mich etwas wie in Südamerika. Trotzdem ist es mindestens einen Ausflug wert!    Lue lisää

    Surfin' the sunset

    We had a really nice week in Hawaii. It was relaxing and a bit adventurous at the same time. We spent our „farewell-evening“ trying to surf - unfortunately there are not many waves at Waikiki Beach. So our „surfing“ was more like paddeling in amazing warm water, watching the sunset over the ocean and a rainbow over the island. It sounds like a romantic movie, but this actually happened. Thank you Oahu!

    Wir hatten eine wirklich schöne Woche auf Hawaii. Es war erholsam und abenteuerlich zugleich. Am letzten Abend hatten wir uns noch Surfboards ausgeliehen; leider gibt es nur wenig Wellen in Waikiki. Daher verbrachten wir die Zeit im warmen Wasser auf dem Surfboards paddelnd und beobachteten den Sonnenuntergang über dem Ozean und den Regenbogen über der Insel. Klingt sehr kitschig, aber so ist die Natur nun manchmal. :)    Lue lisää

    G'day mate!

    We arrived in Australia! Unfortunately our bikes didn’t (they arrived a day later, which saved us from transporting them in the train). Here we’re visiting Nick´s sister, her boyfriend & daughter in the Blue Mountains. So far we don’t have a real plan, how to proceed with our journey, but we’ll figure that out. ;)

    Wir sind angekommen - in Australien! Leider ohne unsere Räder (die dann glücklicherweise einen Tag später da waren - dadurch mussten wir sie nicht mit der überfüllten Bahn mitnehmen). Hier besuchen wir erstmal Nickels´ Schwester, ihren Freund & Nickels´ Nichte in den Blue Mountains. Wie unsere Reise weitergeht? Wissen wir bisher noch nicht.     Three Sisters

    It is spring in Australia - and the wether changes as if there is no tomorrow. One day its 34°C, the next day its 18°C; during the night we have something between 2°C and 12°C. It’s crazy and hard to keep up with these changes. Unfortunately this is not the biggest trouble that the people here have. Strong wind and the high temperatures are good conditions for spreading bushfires. At the moment there are just a few smaller fires in the Blue Mountains, but more often it is smokey from fires, which are still far away. Today we went to see the Three sister, but the valley was quite smokey itself. Apart from that we enjoy being here.

    Es ist Frühling in Australien - und das Wetter schwankt, als gäbe es kein Morgen mehr. Den einen Tag 34°C, den nächsten 18°C, nachts mal 12°C, mal 2°C. Es ist verrückt und schwierig, sich darauf einzustellen. Leider ist;das nicht das „größte“ Problem, das die Menschen in Australien momentan haben. Starker Wind und die (ab und an) heißen Temperaturen sind günstig für die Ausbreitung der Buschfeuer. Es ist häufig verqualmt, obwohl die Feuer noch weit weg sind. Heute waren wir bei den Three Sisters und haben uns das (leider) verqualmte Tal angeschaut. Abgesehen davon geht es uns aber gut.    Lue lisää

    Canberra!

    I had one day in the Australian Capital (Territory) Canberra (which became the capital because the Aussies couldn’t decide between Sydney and Melbourne). There is not that much to see or do, but it was nice. And I ended up shopping. So it was not a bad I idea at all to come here. :D

    Ich verbrachte einen Tag im Australian Capital (Territory) Canberra (die übrigens Hauptstadt wurde, weil die Australier sich nicht zwischen Sydney und Melbourne entscheiden konnten. Hier gibt es nicht viel zu sehen oder zu tun, aber es war trotzdem schön, mal hier gewesen zu sein. Außerdem war ich shoppen. Es war also eine sehr gute Idee, nach Canberra zu fahren. :D    Lue lisää

    Fairgrounds Festival

    The first real trip with our van! We went to volunteer at Fairgrounds - a nice litte festival, where we camped and had free entry due to our work. It was amazing! :)

    Since we drove from Sydney to Melbourne, we stopped here just for the night. Splitting up a long drive just makes things easier. :)

    Since we spent so much time in the Blue Mountains, we were ready for a change. And we decided to make a trip to Melbourne. There we took part in a barista-class and learned, how difficult it is to steam the milk! Apart from that we rode our bikes around the city and met some friends. It was worth the long drive.

    Da wir schon so viel Zeit in den Blue Mountains verbracht hatten, war es Zeit, den Ort mal wieder zu wechseln. Also fuhren wir nach Melbourne, um an einem Barista-Kurs teilzunehmen. Wir lernten, wie man guten Kaffee machen kann und wie schwer es ist, die Milch zu schäumen! Außerdem fuhren wir auf unseren Rädern etwas durch die Stadt und trafen uns mit ein paar Freunden. Mindestends das war die lange Fahrt wert.    Lue lisää

    Falls Festival 2019/2020

    After spending Christmas in Blackheath with Nicks’ family (with lots of smoke and fires around), we traveled north’s wards - to Byron Bay to spend New Years at the Falls Festival there. On our way up we picked up some lovely people, who also went to work or volunteer at the festival. Very quickly the nature around us changed, it was way less smoky and became really green. We all felt better when we saw that.
    It was a nice trip and an amazing week at Falls. Thank you!

    Nachdem wir Weihnachten mit Nickels Familie in Blackheath verbrachten, wo leider viel(e) Feuer und viel Rauch war, ging es für uns nordwärts - nach Byron Bay! Wir verbrachten den Jahreswechsel auf dem Falls Festival. Auf dem Weg dort hin sammelten wir noch drei MitfahrerInnen ein, die auch auf dem Festival arbeiteten oder voluntierten. Der Rauch und auch die Feuer wurden auf dem Weg dort hin schnell weniger, die Natur deutlich grüner. Das tat uns allen sichtlich gut. Die Laune war toll - und das Festival auch. Danke!    Lue lisää

    Biking in Brisbane

    Once again we met Nicks’ parents - this time in Brisbane! We picked them up at the airport an had about two days in the city. One day we explored the city by foot an boat (there is a catamaran-ferry which is part of the public transport system!) and and the second day by bike & an e-scooter. They have a really good nice „recreation-walk“ along the river. It was so much fun! But it was hot. Like really hot. :D After these two days we had enough of the city and started our little road-trip back south.

    Wir trafen uns (wieder mal) mit Nickels’ Eltern - nur dieses mal in Brisbane! Nachdem wir sie am Flughafen eingesammelt hatten, nahmen wir uns fast zwei Tage Zeit für die Stadt und erkundeten sie zu Fuß und auf dem Fluss (Katamaran-Fähren sind Teil des öffentlichen Transportsystems) und dann nochmal mit dem Rad & E-Scooter. Es gibt einen super tollen „recreation-walk“ (einen gut ausgebauten Weg zum Spazieren, Radfahren, ...). Es war wirklich schön! Und heiß. Aber auch wirklich schön. :)
    Nach zwei Tagen hatten wir dann aber (erstmal) genug von er Stadt und starteten unseren kleinen Road-Trip zurück Richtung Süden.    Lue lisää

    Byron - once again.

    We came back. It’s just too beautiful here (and the area around it: Brunswick Heads, Ti-Tree-Lake, Kings Beach). And the people are nice. And the waves are nice. So we finally got to rent our surfboards! :)
    Just some nice beach-ocean-lake-surf-days.

    Für uns ging es nochmal nach Byron. Es ist einfach schön dort (in der ganzen Umgebung: Brunswick Heads, Ti-Tree-See, Kings Strand....). Und die Leute sind nett. Und die Wellen sind gut. Also mieteten wir uns endlich mal wieder Surfboards! :)

    Yamba

    After spending half of the day surfing and strolling around the beach market in Byron, we decided to drive for a while and made a barbecue-dinner-stop in Yamba. It’s a small town with a nice beach, rocks and an ocean-pool. Recommended!

    Nachdem wir den Tag surfend und über den Strandmarkt schlendernd in Byron verbrachten, ging es noch ein wenig mit dem Auto weiter. Wir hielten in Yamba für ein Grill-Abendessen-Stopp. Yamba ist ein niedlicher, kleiner Ort mit schönem Strand, Ozean-Pool, Felsen. Es lohnt sich, hier mal vorbeizuschauen.    Lue lisää

    Bellingen

    It’s a really cute little town, very close to a free campground (in Thora - we slept there twice and saw sooooo many stars!). You can stroll around, have a look into the cute shops they have and eat an incredible good chocolate-cheesecake. Believe me: it’s worth a stopp.

    Bellingen ist eine süße Kleinstadt, sehr nah an einem kostenfreien Campground (in Thora, wir haben dort 2x übernachtet und so viele Sterne nachts gesehen!). Es gibt hier kleine, hübsche Läden, tolle Cafés und einen phänomenalen Schokoladen-Cheesecake. Lohnt sich, glaubt mir. ;)    Lue lisää

    We made our breakfast-stop here. It turned out to be a longer stop with food, swimming and yoga and head-stand-practices. Was great! :)
