The Lodge and working farm are owned by the same family as the last place. We had a tour of the sheep farm. Watching the dogs work, shearing, and why Marino wool is the BEST IN THE WORLD.

All AM in the van. Stopped at interesting rock formations and learned about the fault line we drove along.

Nice seafood lunch at the beach in Christchurch then a tour of the Botanical Gardens and earthquake museum to learn about that and the rebuilding after the big one in 2011.

Our final night includes a home hosted dinner. Bernie won an award for best guess of travel distance (2000KM) Lots of laughs and hugs and tipping.

    28. januar 2023, New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 61 °F

We woke up to disastrous news for our fellow travelers. Auckland airport was closed due to torrential rains. We on the other hand had a pleasant morning walking around Christchurch. Then to the airport for our flight to Fiji. We had to check our NZ honey into quarantine and should get it back at our departure.Læs mere

  • Bula Fiji

    29. januar 2023, Fiji ⋅ ⛅ 77 °F

Standing in line in immigration we met some people from Alaska who are good friends of a couple we traveled with in New Zealand.

The Raddison here is a big family resort. We found the adult only pool and had a great Lebanese lunch. Last night's dinner at the buffet was mediocre so we booked the Thai and Italian restaurants for the remainder of our stay.

Lovely chats with the Aussies and Kiwis that vacation here. Prices are all listed in FJD, AUD and NZD. Looks like a thunderstorm sweeps through every afternoon to cool the evenings off. BULA BULA.

  • Last Day

    30. januar 2023, Fiji ⋅ ⛅ 77 °F

We went out to a great seafood dinner at the marina in Denarou.

The Fijians pride themselves on great a cappella voices and we were treated to it at the restaurant and twice in the day that followed. After our final breakfast, with singing, we had our last dip in the pool.

The afternoon before our flight we toured for 5 hours with a driver and guide. Local market in Nadi was first. Then a drive by a famous Hindu Sri Siva Subramaniya temple. A nice man told us all about why it was closed this week to visitors. Lunch at a local place, then the orchids at the Botanical gardens (built by Raymond Burr). Then a tour of a historic Fijian village that boasts the number of prime ministers and other top officials that hail from there (and singing!).

Back to the hotel to catch a quick shower and collect our bags for the overnight flight home.
