Not going to lie...it is pretty easy to get sick of rice and beans here. We eat it at breakfast and on the typical Casado platter. All of the food is fresh, but the variety is more limited.

Further south down the Pacific coast we stopped to play on the beach at Manuel Antonio. Beautiful spot!

This species is unique to the Manuel Antonio area. It was a bit dark out, but still great to see. There were a couple of dozen.

Leaf cutter ants

This video has leaf cutter ants, which are responsible for clearing the forest. They can carry enormous weight.
El Pavon waterfall

Borruca masks

The indigenous tribes are famous for carved and ornately painted masks. Students bought them on the side of the road from an indigenous artist. The workmanship is amazing.
Terraba indigenous community

Pineapples

Pineapples grown commercially take 6 months to grow. But in the indigenous community, where they use no chemicals, it takes up to 10.
Mask workshop

Students are learning how to carve traditional masks from a local artist. Balsa trees are grown on his property for this purpose.
Swimming hole

Took a significant trek to a water hole. Great swimming. Some climbed the rocks to get to a waterfall.
Playa Ventana

After a busy day and a half in the indigenous village, we spent a couple hours relaxing on the beach. The name of the beach comes from the holes carved into the limestone by the water.
Savegre river

We enjoyed rafting on the cleanest river in Costa Rica and either the cleanest or second cleanest river in Central America. The water was so clear.

Waterfall

Stopped along the way for this incredible waterfall. We also jumped out of our boats a few times.
Morpho butterfly
