  • Welcome to South Africa

    14. april, Sør-Afrika ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

A great stop in Rwanda for 2 hours with great treatment. Then we had to board the smaller plane for 4 hours and get to South Africa.
Customs was a super quick process as we had the fast track and we were soon the other side waiting to collect our baggage. Fortunately we had taken the time to shrink wrap our case as most rucksacks and cases that had, had a layover had been rifled through by baggage handlers somewhere.
Once our case was collect we headed up to the Uber pickup point to order a car and head to the storage yard to collect the car.

  • Back to Bushman’s rock

    14. april, Sør-Afrika ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Finally after 16 hours we have arrived, luckily we slept on both planes and we feel pretty good.
Our car was in perfect condition. Cleaned, serviced and even hooked up to the caravan ready to go and after 10 minutes of sorting our stuff out we headed just 5km down the road to our first sleepover of the trip. Bushman’s Rock.Les mer

  • Let’s start the road trip

    15. april, Sør-Afrika ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

We left Bushmans rock and drive to the nearest spar where there was a dead body at the side of the road being dealt with by police. Apparently they worked in the KFC next to the spar and had been hit by a car on the way to work. By the time we came out of the spar the road was clear, the body gone and it was like nothing ever happened.
New tyres are now on and we are ready for the road ahead. 2 days shopping is also done and for the rest of the day it’s just driving as we make our way across South Africa. Neither of us are looking forward to 7 hours in the car but here we go………

  • Red sands country lodge

    15.–16. apr., Sør-Afrika ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

It took us 6 1/2 hours at 120kph to get here and we had some sketchy moments passing the Lorry’s that can only do 70kph but we’ve made it.
We arrived just as the sun was setting so the lovely food we brought earlier is staying in the fridge as we’re too tired to cook and we are hitting the restaurant and then going to bed.Les mer

  • The Kalahari Mall

    16. april, Sør-Afrika ⋅ 🌬 26 °C

Our first stop of the day was Upington and the Kalahari Mall where we stocked up in supplies for tomorrow and grabbed some last minute bits before our border crossing tomorrow.
The Kalahari mall is a massive shopping complex like lakeside or the Trafford centre with all the shops you could want.Les mer

  • Upington

    16. april, Sør-Afrika ⋅ 🌬 29 °C

After sorting all of our stuff out we drove back into Upington to get some cross border stickers, a shovel and some blocks of wood to go under the caravan legs as our last ones went rotten. We visited Midas, 4x4 mega world and then Upington lumber. I then made a genius solution for carrying our new shovel out of the way because I never want to use it, while Ellie did a marvellous job of modelling it beforehand for our socials.Les mer

  • Leaving South Africa - Customs

    17. april, Sør-Afrika ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

It was a 130km drive taking nearly 2 hours on a road that was as straight as an arrow all the way to customs.
Leaving South Africa was easy at the Netty customs station and we had decided to take our chances and hide all contraband like meat and dairy products in the cupboards in the caravan.
Next it was a 16km drive through no man’s land and onto Namibia customs.

  • Namibia

    17. april, Namibia ⋅ 🌬 19 °C

Our first stop in Namibia 90 minutes after the border was the Spar at Karasburg where we stocked back up in fresh fruit and veg and milk. Then we sat in the car for an hour waiting for the telecoms place to open up only to be told we could get a SIM card down the road opposite spar.
While we were waiting we witnessed the strangest sight of an old man sit down in the middle of the road and proceed to take off all of his clothes. He then threw them onto a barbed wire fence and carried on walking down the road totally naked shouting at his shadow in the road. The school girls thought it was hilarious.
We then managed to get a SIM card each from somewherelse and topped both up with data and then we carried on.

  • The Canyon Road House

    17. april, Namibia ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

At 4pm we finally reached our campsite at the Canyon road house. It’s a really quirky little place and our camp is completely unfenced and beautiful.
We cooked Wors and vegetables on the Braai and when the sun went down it got very cold very quickly and then the wind got up só at 7:30pm we went into the caravan for the night.Les mer

  • The Southern Viewpoint.

    18. april, Namibia ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

It took us over an hour of real off road rock crawling to get to the southern viewpoint and we were hoping it would be a loop road but unfortunately we had to take the same road back and that was even worse as it was uphill.
We finally managed to spot our first wild animals of Springbok and Oryx but no photos as they were quite skittish.

  • Back to Camp

    18. april, Namibia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

We arrived back at camp and it has been a full day out considering we haven’t done much.
We decided to stop at the shop on the way back to pick up a Namibia mug for our collection and it was here I found a genuine Raleigh Chopper. This would be worth a fortune back in the Uk in this condition.
Just before we got back to camp we filled up with diesel ready for tomorrows journey
