1. Views higher up were hazy. Hard to tell but for a while the drop was a sheer 200 feet down.

The glacier was "discovered" just 120 years ago. 1. is one frame of a panny. 2 is a glacierberg.

What the hell makes rock look like this? By good fortune i found out. They are traces of 1,000,000,000 year old stromatolites*. Current altitude approx 6500 feet.

The huge variety of rocks left behind by the trillion pound bulldozer is amazing. Many were beautiful.

On the way out more of the haze had lifted so i got a better picture of the lake. The great color is from rock ground extremely fine by the glacier.

One end of the main road has lots of valleys (the erosion is below you.) The other end you are in the formations (you are at the base of the eroded areas.) Here is the latter. Really awesome area.

The plastic bowed out enough to hit the tire. The hole would let in plenty of water. Hope the screws i put in right behind the tire don't back out.

This is a rest stop in Illinois. They call them "Oasis". Its one rest stop on both sides of the highway and all the stores are on a giant bridge. People who stop get a neat view and it must cost theЧитать далее
ПутешественникThis is one of my favorite things about driving through the Chicago area. I think this is a unique approach to rest area. And they do provide some pretty neat views.
