  • Manila - Fort Santiago

    January 2, 2025 on the Philippines ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

Fort Santiago is one of the oldest fortifications in Manila built by the Spaniards in 1571 from what was once a palisaded structure of logs and earth built by Rajah Soliman on the native settlement called Maynila.

After its destruction during the Battle of Manila in 1945, the fort was used by the U.S. Transportation Corps as a depot until it was turned over to the Philippine government in 1946. In 1950, Fort Santiago was declared a Shrine of Freedom, and restoration began the following year. Today, it stands as a memorial to the victims of World War II and the sacrifices of the Filipino people in pursuit of freedom.

The record of torture inflicted by the Japanese is truly awful during World War II, I did not photograph the underground dungeons as a mark of respect for all those who were murdered.

  • Coron - Siete Pecados Marine Park

    January 5, 2025 on the Philippines ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Siete Pecados Marine Park is a popular tourist attraction just outside Coron, consisting of a group of 7 small rocky islets located just a few hundred meters off Coron town’s coast. The sitem is best known as a perfect diving spot and a snorkelling heaven for beginners and amateur. The coral reefs surrounding the islets are shallow and among the healthiest in the region of the Philippines, so you may need only a life jacket to explore the place’s underwater wonders. While snorkelling, you’re expecting to see lots of colourful reef fish, sea turtles, and huge schools of barracudas living around the easternmost island.
Captured a lovely video of Mr & Mrs Nemo (Clown Fish) dancing together. They mate for life, so no divorce in the fish world! 😍

  • Coron - Maquinit Hot Springs

    January 5, 2025 on the Philippines ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

Maquinit Hot Springs is located at the southeastern coast of Busuanga Island, which can be reached by a 20-minute tricycle ride from Coron town. The hot spring outcrops on cracks and fissures in the exposed grey limestone discharging hot water at a temperature of 41 degrees Centigrade and 5,115 litres per minute (Sincioco & Bautista, 1985). There is no smell of sulfur. Spring deposition is very minimal and is limited to staining of rock by a brownish material believed to be limonite. The water is very salty, suggesting intrusion of sea water depth.Read more

Unfortunately, due to increased wind speeds, turbulence in the water resulted in reduced visibility. The World War II wreck at East Tangat had almost zero visibility. However, Lusong Gun Boat has some interesting video clips below. Pass Island is
    beautiful, see images.

For our first internal flight in the Philippines, we opted for Cebu Pacific. One hour, twenty minute flight from Puerto Princesa to Cebu with 24kg bags were less than £40.00 per person.

True, this tiny island province is famous for its mountain-dwelling mangkukulam (healers) who brew traditional ointments for modern ailments.
