  • Lies and Beauty

    February 19, 2019 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

If it wouldn't be greedy and overtly lying locals this place would be a paradise - with deserted beaches, great corals and supreme snorkelling. But every coin has 2 sides: tourists get ripped off with transport costs. Even if the price for boat ride is set, having white skin means you have to pay at least 2 times more and passengers on the same boat agree to tell you that they are paying the same. But it's so awkward when you speak Indonesian language fluently and understand every single word said.
    - Is it really true?
    - Yes, we pay the same!
    - Do you tell me that in front of the mosque?
    - (silence staring at the mosque dome on a sandy shore)
Shame, honestly! Not sure how they still can go to that mosque and pray😥 But yes, nature has given this place such a beauty that your eyes are still wide open and your tongue is numb. That's another side of the coin

  • Gunung Api Banda

    February 20, 2019 in Indonesia ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

When I just arrived to Banda Naira I met an old lady - Ibu Siti - that's the most bright soul and the kindest heart I encountered here in Banda Island. She told me immediately - "All islands around here are great but if you don't climb volcano island Gunung Api then you haven't been to Banda. I did climb it". So today I did this hike... Ibu Siti was right with wording - it was a climb, the most brutal I've ever had - elevation 640m by a track with angle of 50° - by a track covered with extremely slippery volcanic chip. While going up I was shooing away thoughts of how I was going to descend. And look at the view - worth any difficulties and liters of sweat that drenched all my clothes and was streaming down to my already slippery flip flops. Thank you, Ibu Siti!Read more
