  • Nolloth Baileu

    24 de febrero de 2019, Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

It might look like there are only impressive beaches in Saparua, but wait - it's an island of simple and smiley people, dense jungles, caves and traditional colourful villages. This is a couple of hundred years old Baileu - longhouse - used for village gatherings and celebrating important events in the villagers lives. But with introduction of Christianity it was partially replaced by Church😐Leer más

  • Pelabuhan Kulur

    25 de febrero de 2019, Indonesia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

If someone would ask me "What is your favourite country?", I'll answer "Indonesia" although many people who know me wouldn't ask that. "What is your favourite city?" would hear an answer "Jakarta". But if someone would ask me about my fav island, without skipping a bit I'd say "Saparua" - very rural, very simple, very charming!Leer más

Re-discovering Ambon - a city I never adored but it turned to be a quite vibrant and pleasant place to be - with extremely nice people as everywhere in Indonesia and feeling the vibe of province capital. Listening to live music now, sipping nutmeg juice and picking at sticky rice with brown sugar😋Leer más

  • Back to Nature

    1 de marzo de 2019, Flores Sea ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

I'm very short of words to describe what I've been experiencing during these few weeks traveling around Indonesia by sea yet I'll attempt to. In fact, it's a rediscovery of the country I love the most - in the last 12 years since I was first time brought here I'd never thought of traveling around by ships - in a country that comprises 18.000 islands! Being the only white person surrounded by Indonesians, sleeping in an extremely hot shared economy class sections surrounded by hundreds of people, queuing with them to get my share of white rice, waiting in a flooded toilet for my turn to take shower. And then - wave to crowds when leaving a port, hang on to rails watching beautiful sunsets and sunrises, mountain ridges appearing on horizon getting closer to the next port, tons of coffee, laughs, domino games and reading. Gratitude fills my soul, rejoice pours from my heart and words of thankfulness uttered to those who helped me to be who I am now - my mom, my geography teacher, and last but not least - my favourite writer Thor Heyerdahl whose books inspired that bedridden weak kid to fight and walk again to see this marvellous and magical world. Re-reading his "Fatu-Hiva: Back to Nature" and smile doesn't go off my lipsLeer más

White sand beaches, abundant marine life, beautiful landscapes and gorgeous views from the ship deserve showing my sleeping place for many nights - in economy class section (the only one available) - my red sarong and green backpack are right in the middle😉 Wouldn't say it's the most comfy bed but you get used to it, the only problem is enormous heat and continuously flooded toiletLeer más

  • Ogoh-Ogoh

    7 de marzo de 2019, Indonesia ⋅ 🌧 27 °C

    Selamat Hari Raya Nyepi, semuanya!

Ngrupuk - a parade of ogoh-ogoh - statues of demons created and later burnt what aims spiritual purification of environment from activities of living beings - humans

The demons of my soul... have gone
    But angels haven't come.
    The blessing condescends upon
My head... and leaves me numb.

The silence breaks into a storm
    With heartbeat overwhelmed.
The ice in soul became so warm
    And ultimately melt.

    The quietude has been disturbed
    With nothing in return.
At least not yet. Though tiny bird
    Seems very soon be born.
