18,426 steps (13.10 km) Chipping Campden to Broadway.
We started at the Market Hall, where a large circular plaque marks the beginning of the way. "Now the light falls across the open field, leaving the deep lane shuttered with branches dark in the afternoon." Up we go to reach the top of Dover's Hill - with a great view of the Malvern Hills. There is a memorial stone dedicated to Captain Robert Dover, a wealthy and eccentric lawyer who organized the first 'Olympick Games' here in 1612... consisting of games such as leap-frog, tug of war, and shin-kicking. This large green field is also home to some very chill sheep, and we've now learned to 'mind the poop' instead of 'minding the gap'.
We've climbed up and down some beautiful valleys and through fields of winter crops, passing through Fish Hill and up to Broadway Tower. This tower is said to be the highest point in the Cotswold. It was built in 1798 for the 6th Earl of Coventry (allegedly as a folly for his wife). This was a good stop for tea and a snack. The downhill to Broadway village was painful on the knees!
The leaves are changing color, and we've been lucky to avoid rain so far! Foot care and bed after a great dinner in the pub (which is over 400 years old! ), tomorrow is a longer day.
