    Obilićev Venac is without a doubt one of the old and valuable city monument areas in Belgrade. Connected to Knez Mihailova Street, Kosančićev Venac and the Belgrade Fortress, it forms essentially the only material testimony to the continuity of the city of Belgrade, from its oldest Roman times to today.

    In Ancient times the area of the street, due to the specific layout of the terrain, used the highest point as the communication route, namely the ridge that slopes gently downwards towards the Sava riverbank. Thus in later historical times the geographical location of the ridge was the main factor behind the shaping and purpose of Obilićev Venac. The street was certainly set out as far back as the Roman times, when the center of the Singidunum settlement was already located in Knez Mihailova Street. Under the onslaught of Barbarians the area of Obilićev Venac was devastated. The agony of the street's ruination continued throughout the Middle Ages and culminated in the street disappearing from the urban map of Belgrade and turning into a green field    Leggi altro

    Savamala is located south of the Kalemegdan fortress and the neighborhood of Kosančićev Venac, and stretches along the right bank of the Sava river. Its northern section belongs to the municipality of Stari Grad (Old Town), while central and southern sections belong to the municipality of Savski Venac. The central street in the neighborhood is Karađorđeva.

    Originally, the entire western section (Terazije slopes) of today's city center was called Savamala, roughly bounded by the modern streets and squares of Terazije, King Milan's, Slavija, Nemanjina and Prince Miloš'. The entire area was known as Zapadni Vračar, but that name completely disappeared from usage, while as Savamala today is considered only a section along the Karađorđeva street.    Leggi altro

    Concrete ship "SIP" is one of the two remaining concrete ships in Europe, made in a series of 50 copies in 1943 in Germany, under the direct order of Hitler. It was designed to transport wounded people from the Baltic Sea to Germany. Being concrete it was immune to floating mines which were magnetised and therefore attracted to metal hulls.Leggi altro

    Beogradska tvrđava, consists of the old citadel (Upper and Lower Town) and Kalemegdan Park (Large and Little Kalemegdan) on the confluence of the River Sava and Danube, in an urban area of modern Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. It is located in Belgrade's municipality of Stari Grad. Belgrade Fortress was declared a Monument of Culture of Exceptional Importance in 1979, and is protected by the Republic of Serbia. It is the most visited tourist attraction in Belgrade, with Skadarlija being the second. Since the admission is free, it is estimated that the total number of visitors (foreign, domestic, citizens of Belgrade) is over 2 million yearly.

    This is Polet a famous cafe/bar/eatery, from years gone by, with the academic elite and students which was closed for many years but recently re-opened and doing great business once again. Girice is smelt, like whitebait but a bit larger, fried whole in a light dusting of flour... just delicious with a dark, cold beer!Leggi altro

    The name of the city is derived from the Old/Middle High German term Munichen, meaning "by the monks".
