Eurotrip

Luxembourg is a pretty and interesting country. It's impressive that they managed to stay independent despite being neighbours to powerful nations, huge in comparison. They national motto attests to their will:

"Mir welle bleiwe wat mir sinn"

In other words, we want to stay what we are. I though it was an inspiring message of auto determination.

On the airplane to Luxembourg I met an ex Portuguese immigrant that retired in Costa da Caparica after 30 years working in a Luxembourgish factory. He was traveling with his wife.

Despite claiming that they led a comfortable life in Portugal, with a retirement from Luxembourg, they complained that TAP, the Portuguese airline, was no longer what it used to be, that it was a shame they didn't serve dinner, all while they took out their home-made ham sandwiches to fool their hunger, as we say in Portuguese. The wife waived one of the sandwichs in my direction, offering to share their food. As if one hour chatting was enough to become extended family.

I liked Luxembourg for the views, for the rich history and for being a very different micro nation. Czytaj więcej
