• Raffles & Hawker Market

    21 aprile 2024, Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

Raffles was our first stop to have the famous Singapore Sling.
In the early 1900s Raffles was the place where the community gathered. Women however could not consume alcohol publicly (imagine that!!!) so teas and fruit juices were the drinks of choice. Then in 1915 a very smart young Hainanese gentlemen by the name
Ngiam Tong Boon decided to create a drink for the ladies that looked like a fruit juice but was actually infused with gin and clear liquor. What a man!!
Following our cocktails and the obligatory throwing of the free nut husks to th floor we headed to the nearest Hawker market via the Marina.
We were spoiled for choice when it came to food...so much so no doubt we'll be back there tomorrow for lunch and dinner!
