Day 11 - Travel day

With a very unusual breakfast at McDonalds, we made our way to the Airport of Huehuetenango. With a little delay we had a very smooth flight at a very low altitude and landed in Guatemala City just after 9:00. We had a unique stop arranged for our brief visit of the city. Through good connections we managed to arranged a special visit to the Montessori School where recently several Stygian Owl fledglings had been spotted. With a short stop to pick up Pollo Campero for the gardeners of the school who were staying overtime for us, we arrived there with just enough time to search for the Owls. High up in the Pine trees we finally spotted three Owls. Two seemed to be fledglings, and even one of the adults was present. With just enough time and three very rare Owls in our pockets, we headed back to the center of the city for lunch. Right on time we got back to the airport to catch our flight to Petén where we arrived just around sunset over the lagoon at the beautiful Villa Maya hotel.Read more
