München, empty streets

Munich is a ghost town today. Eerie, but peaceful. I love the skinny trees lining this street. Walked around, everything closed. Still trying to recover from an ever-worsening cold.

(1) Hallway with small, lightless prison cells. Prisoners would be fed once every three or four days. (2) Replica of a cage used to hold mosquitoes to infect prisoners with malaria.

Fantastic view of Marienplatz from the ground and from Peterskirche (St. Peter’s Cathedral). The hike up "Alter Peter" (Old Peter) consists of about 300 stairs, so I was pretty dizzy by the time IWeiterlesen
(1) A museum that serves beer? Thank goodness for Cafébar Limulus! (2) Now I know 12 of the insect orders in German (Hymenoptera is “Hautflüger”). (3) Chromosome quiz!
For a good part of the hike, mine were the only footprints in the snow. Also, who would have thought an umbrella would be so useful? Afterwards I walked around Berchtesgaden.
Really neat miniatures of opera sets at Mozart’s Birthplace Museum. Besides Mozart’s first violin, this was the coolest exhibit (I was disappointed that all the sheet music on display wereWeiterlesen
