Last minute arrival in Chile!

Things got pretty crazy on my travel to Chile!

I was suppose to go to Chile on Monday morning, but got sick and wanted to wait till I am completly recovered. 🦠

Then, they announced that Chile would close all borders on Wednesday due to the Corona Virus and so I had to react quickly. 😵

I bought a new ticket for the bus and hoped to cross the border before they close it.
In the end, it worked out and I arrived in Valparaiso at around 7pm.

I met another German girl, who also works in the hostel and we both walked to the hostel together.もっと詳しく

New hostel in Valparaiso

I used the first day to buy some foods in the street and a supermarket close by and get to know the people in the hostel.

Its an old house with big rooms and a nice spot to sit outside and enjoy the sun! 😎👍

BBQ night at the hostel

Bugra, the owner of the Muffin Hostel, made meat with sandwich and selfmade salads/Guacamole!😍

Visit at the beach

Even tho it is Corona time and most people stay home, we decided to do a little walk after lunch and go to the beach. 🏖️

Because it is Corona time, the beach was so empty!! 😍

We even saw many sealions on a platform in front of the beach, chilling in the sun. 🌅

Cooking & Bingo Night

To fight the boring isolation in the hostel, we decided to play Bingo (or Binjo) together! 🥳

During the break, Kait cooked a lentil soup and I made pancakes for everyone!! 🤤

This noon I went to the market to buy some food and stuff with Kait. We also bought some flowers to decorate the hostel 💐

I made a rosemary/garlic bread for breakfast? tomorrow ... hopefully its tasty! 🙈

First selfmade Röstis

I had the idea to cook another typical dish from my area, which is known and sold throughout Germany: Röstis or Kartoffelpuffer. 🇩🇪

Mariel and I bought all the ingredients on the local market in front of the hostel. We also wanted to serve applesauce, which we would also make ourselves. 🍏
You can buy applesauce here in the jumbo, but it's very easy to make and so we chose the cheaper and tastier way. 😍

In the evening, we peeled the apples first and made the applesauce and then we made the Röstis. We fried them in a pan with hot oil. 👍

Unfortunately, the Röstis were very brown and were not as crispy as at the Christmas markets in Germany ... but everyone was thrilled and we all enjoyed this delicious food very much! 🧡💚💛もっと詳しく

Easter at the MUFFIN hostel

Last minute, as always (in this case in the morning time) I came up with the sweet idea to surprise the others in the hostel and buy some chocolate or so. 🤭

So I went to the market and bought 8 bunny bags and some chocolate 🍫

During my German class in the morning, I cut pieces of papers to a bunny shape and wrote "happy easter" in each language, together with the name.

While everybody looked for the golden easter eggs Mariel hide after breakfast, I took the filled bunny bags and put them on everybodys bed as a gift from me and the easter bunny! 😂😎😋

Everybody was surprised, happy and had a great time ❤️ We took some pics together and chilled the rest of the day.
The next evening, Kait and I coloured some eggs in the cheap version with Markers.

Thank you for this amazing easter time together inside, while the world outside is getting crazy. 😍🥰もっと詳しく

Sunday Funday at the beach

After my two German classes in the morning, we had another French class with the Frenchis and spoke about the numbers and learned two new verbs.

Then I had a small lunch with Mariel on the terrace in the sun. 😎🌞

Around 4.30 pm I walked to the beach to enjoy the last day of warm weather here. Days are getting colder here now ...🥶 Since #fuckingcorona I have to wear a facemask now 😑

I met Bugra and Kait and later some of their friends joined us.
Kait and I decided to run into the ocean and swim a little. But the current was really strong and the water cold, so after a short swim, we returned to the others and enjoyed the sun and later the sunset at the beach. 🌅

After some hours at the beach, we returned to the hostel for Sofias tomato soup and a round of "time's up" afterwards. 🤗もっと詳しく

Alex 'Golden Birthday'

Alex is turning 22 today: his Golden Birthday!! 🥳

It's such a honor, that he's celebrating it with us, instead of traveling around and spending time with other people! Just kidding ... he has no other chance because of #fuckingcorona 😂

David came up with the idea to ask a local climbing place if they would open up for one day for him, since he's a big fan of climbing. We contacted them on Instagram and luckily they allowed Alex and one other person to enter and climb!

Kait and I were looking for some 'golden' decoration stuff at a chinese store close to the hostel and I designed the birthday card as well as the "entry ticket" and let everybody sign it secretly.

At the breakfast table, we gave Alex his present, so he had enough time to ask a friend to join him climbing later this day. He was happy as hell! 😊

Sofia made a dish called Mangu for dinner (smashed platanos, salami, eggs, cheese and onions) and the French Guys made delicious Rösti Burger for dinner for us. 😋

Not just Alex enjoyed his 'Golden Birthday', we all had a wonderful day! 🧡💛💚もっと詳しく

The 21 day SUGAR detox

Now is the perfect time to try out new things. New things like baking banana bread, grow out greasy hair or ... make a sugar detox!! 😬

Kait did this special detox several times already. And since we ate a lot of junk food lately, she wanted to start it again. 💪🏻
It sounded really interesting so I decided to give it a try. 🤩

We celebrated our last evening in "freedom" with alcohol and Berliner. Starting the next morning, no sugar any kind (including wheat, etc.) were allowed to be eaten. ❌🍦❌

To be honest: it wasn't easy most of the time. 😨
I had the feeling that the rest of the group made very delicious dinner now without us, and Alex even made fluffy Berliner with a soft chocolate core inside!! 😡

A lot of things contain sugar, even in products you would never expect it to be. 🙈
But I liked to try out new recipes, new food like Quinoa and I could see many advantages: I wasn't craving for food any longer throughout the day!

The 21 days have passed now.
We tried new recipes. I failed with my Keto bread, but absolutely fall in love with Quinoa!! 💛🧡💚

And I realised something: I ❤️ to bake!
While traveling, it is not easy to find alternatives to bake without sugar and flour. For example, I was so happy when I found flea seed flour in a supermarket - but let's not talk about the costs. 😒

I really enjoyed my time with Kait, to plan, to shop and to cook together with her. Buuuut ... I am happy to be back to some sugar and flour at least. Less meat and less cheese.
And I am happy to be back to baking delicious desserts. 🥧🍰🍮

BBQ with dance party

I like our BBQs outside on the terrace, especially when the weather is nice & the mood is right! 🥳

Tonight we had delicious meat, prepared by Bugra on the grill and afterwards stayed a little bit on the terrace to talk, dance and drink.

The cats Luna and Hermano are always around ... these little cuddle balls 😸😸
Well, Hermano got a wet ass lately, so we kinda keep him on distance 🙄

It's so cute how in particular Luna tries to sit on our laps, when we sit outside playing Blackjack, Cards Against Humanity or just chat about life in general. 😋もっと詳しく

Drunk Beach Day

The weather changed from bitter cold to sweet sunshine all day with a beautiful blue sky.
So we decided to go to the beach 🏖️

Mariel and Bugra went first and bought some beers, the rest caught up later with lunch.
On our way, we bought a tequila bottle and took some cans of soda water with us.

First we eat our chicken and vegetables at the beach, afterwards the girls went for a quick jump into the (still ass cold) ocean 🌊🌊🌊

We drank the tequila, watched the sunset and even saw a japanese space station 🤔🙄 (not a 100% sure tho)

At one moment I was so tipsy that I attacked Mariel. Definetly a bad decision, since she grew up with 2 brothers and knows how to defend herself 😵😂😂😂

Good Bye, Alex

After more than 2 month together, Alex made the decision to travel back home to Switzerland. 😢

We all knew that he had to go home ONE DAY, but then just a few days ago at the breakfast table, he announced that it would be today, the 18th of May ... 😵

The embassy chartered a flight from Santiago to Europe. The next days he planned everything together with the embassy. He asked for busses to go to Santiago and bought a ticket for the bus at 2.15 pm.

We all had the chance to write or draw something in his travel book/diary. 🧡
And as a final Good Bye, we gave him a little glass filled with the sand from the beach of VALPARAISO 🏖️

Around 2 pm, he said Good Bye to everybody and left for his bus to Santiago with the final destination to Switzerland. Btw, his family has no idea that he is coming back already! 😂

Good Bye Alex and many thanks for the wonderful days together, the laughs, the drinks, the games and your delicious desserts! 😘

Roof Top Party

We started the Sunday Funday at 4.30 pm already with a nice afternoon cocktail! 🥃

Later that day, we could convince Bugra to go on the roof! 🤓
It is not so safe, but we promised to be really careful and keep our drinks on the terrace!
And it's Southamerica ... what is safe here anyways?! 🤷🏼‍♀️

One person was holding the ladder and then the another person could climb up.

I was the last and took Tristans phone and a speaker with me. So the party could continue on THE ROOF!! 🥳🥳🥳

Afterwards, we ordered chicken at KFC, because Schmariel Mariel was too lazy to prepare the Pumpkin Soup and this kind of food fits better to being drunk anyways ... 😍😋🍗もっと詳しく

Tristans B-DAY

Today on the 23rd, Tristan is turning 23! 🙊
Time to celebrate this special day together. 🥳

David made pancakes in the morning 🥞 and we all had breakfast together, until I had to leave and tutor German classes. 🤓

Meanwhile, Sofia and Kait organized a scavenger hunt (Schnitzeljagd) for Tristan. They hid notes in the hostel and Tristan had to follow the trail. 🐾
Step by step, he found a mask, money and, as a final task, should go out with Sofia to buy alcohol for the bday party in the evening.
We just didn't noticed that the kiosk on the other side of the street was closed. 🙈

Later that day, we played Twister that Kait & Sofia designed (it's hard to see the colour on the pictures) and we had so much fun!! 😂

Tristan had wanted empanadas for dinner. We ate together and played other party games afterwards - I don't go much into details, just say balloons 😂🙈😉

Last but least, we had a no bake birthday cake that I made earlier. Tristan wanted to blow out the candles, but Sofia was accidentally faster. 😂😂😂

Last BBQ together

We had our last night-BBQ all together, since David will leave next week. And the week afterwards Sofia and (maybe) Tristan! 🤭🤫 Tristans flight back to France got canceled twice already - but that's a different story ...

The time together in the MUFFIN hostel is coming to an end and therefore we celebrate our times together even more! 🥳

Bugra started the bbq with Choripan and bread on the grill and Mariel made Rotkohl German Style earlier to go on top of it all 🌭 - DELICIOUS as always ❤️

Hostel under water

It was raining heavily around noon today! In between it even hailed!! 😱

I just finished my only lessons online when it started. It rained in the kitchen under the door and on the side where a glass in the window is missing.

We immediately got towels to stuff the hole and buckets and mops to wipe up the water. 🌊

The water ran down the walls and dripped from many spots inside the hostel, we set up pots and moved the furniture. 🌧️

In the living room a large glass is also missing in the window and a lot of water came in. We covered the electronics with a plastic bag and hoped for the best.

Tristan and Sofia were outside to buy some things. Luckily, they could hide inside a store and didn't get that wet!! 🏃🏃🏽‍♀️

We are waiting for everything to dry, outside is the perfekt weather now, with a lot of sun and blue sky ... 🤷🏼‍♀️😐🙄もっと詳しく

Au Revoir, David

The next of the Muffineros Survivors is leaving: David is flying back to France! 😢

He will stay one night in the capital Santiago with a friend and then take the plane the next day. First to Sao Paolo in Brazil, then Frankfurt in Germany and afterwards to Paris in France. 🛬
What a trip! 😳 But I guess that is traveling during Corona 🙄

As a last good bye, I made a no-bake cake with a strawberry and cookie filling and used chocolate and almonds for the decoration around. 🍪🍫
Actually I wanted to write something on top, but the chocolate letters didn't get hard enough to remove them from the paper. 🤔
So I IMPROVISED ☝️ and used some left over Pomegranate seeds to form the word "BYE" instead. Sofia helped me to arrange the seeds with chopsticks. 🥢😁

After eating the cake, we gathered at the door, where David hold a last speech, gave everyone a big hug (I saw some tears here 😭) and left the hostel with Bugra to go to the bus terminal. 🚌

We all followed his last steps in Valparaiso from the windows of the MUFFIN Hostel and saw how Bugra said his final goodbye to David. 👋

It's been some days now, David arrived in France all safe & sound and is probably already planning his next trip 🧭😉👍

Thank you for the last month together, for the good and bad moments, the help when I messed up a dessert, letting me watch TopChef in french with you and Tristan, the Caramel, the hot chocolate, the delicious dinners, the french class on the terrace, the songs you played on the guitar and much more. 😂😂😂

Kaits Bday

Today is Kaits birthday!! 🥳🎂

First, we all had an American Breakfast together. It was so delicious, with orange juice, different kind of cooked potatoes, bacon and more 🤤

Later, we all walked to their friends terrace together. We had to walk in small groups though, because Valparaiso still has a lock down. 🤫

Don't make me mention the stairs ... Omg 😂
They were uneven, partly broken and I don't know how many steps I had to make to reach their house and terrace! 🥵

But it was definetly worth it! ❤️ The view over Valparaiso from up there is so amazing. You can not even put it in words. Too bad we didn't went there before. 🙈

We brought drinks, some snacks and later that night had a fire, the party lastet a looong time, until we had to return to the hostel. 🥳

There is a lock down, but you can still leave the house during the day to get like food or medicine. However, after 10 is a No Go and we did not wanted to get caught by the police or military!!

Kait enjoyed that day and so did we!! Thank you for this special moment and everything we have been through together here!! 😘❤️もっと詳しく

The next one of the Frenchis is leaving! 💔
This morning before 10 am, Tristan left the MUFFIN to travel back to France. 😢

He left us a note on the board, said goodbye to everone (especially to Sofia 😍) and then started his long travel back (over Frankfurt in Germany).

He arrived safe and sound at his home and already sent us a picture together with his family, outside in the Garden.

I hope to see you again one day Tristan, it was a pleasure to meet you, many thanks for all the fun moments together, the good food, also the french classes, the talks and of course our kitchen towel fights!! 😂😂😂もっと詳しく

Adiós, Sofia!

And today, it was time to say Goodbye and Adiós to Sofia! 😢
Even tho I know that saying goodbye is always a sad thing, I hope to see Sofia again one day in Mexico! 💃

Girl, thank you soo much for the wonderful time together at the MUFFIN hostel, the laughs, the tears we shared, the amazing food - Arepas, Gnocchis, Shakshuka, just to name a few! 🤤

Sofia will first fly to Miami, the same flight that Mariel and I will take next week on our way to the Dominican Republic.
Then she wants to see her sisters, family and later move to Mexico.
And since my plan is to go to Mexico too, the chances are really high that we will meet again! ❤️

Adiós MUFFIN, Valparaiso and Chile

Now our turn to leave the MUFFIN Hostel has come! 😓

Of course, I am really sad to leave this hostel, that has been my second home for the last 4 months. But I am also looking forward to my new adventures in the Dominican Republic and even afterwards. 🎒🧭

We packed all our stuff, had a last dinner together and then said our final goodbye. 😭😭

Mariel and I walked to the bus stop to catch the bus leaving at 3.10pm to the airport of Santiago.

We took 5 different documents for the controls on the way. There were a lot of controls because of Covid-19. 🦠

At the airport, after a really long bus ride, we checked in our package and waited at the gate. I heared my name on the speaker and was asked to do a drug test! From the US govermnent! 🤬
I was so mad, I wasn't even allowed to use the bathroom or brush my teeth before! 🙄

Everything was ok, but since I was separated from Mariel, she was worried and so everybody in our MUFFIN WhatsApp group. I pranked them and said the police was called, but quickly realized they were really worried and told them the truth! 😂😂😂

After the night in the plane, 11 hours at the airport of Miami and 2 more hours in a crowed! (no social distancing) flight, we finally arrived at the airport in the capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo. ❤️もっと詳しく
