    Riomaggiore

    June 1, 2015 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Just another few pictures of beautiful Riomaggiore. :)

This was our last day in Italy. Overall we had a great time. We had the chance to see sooo many great things and places: The famous and UNESCO whs listed Cinque Terre & Portovenere, Lucca, Florence and the Leaning Tower of Pisa, just to name the highlights.
We had a great time and I'm sure, we'll come back one day. :)

    Riomaggiore

    June 1, 2015 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

First highlight: On our way to Riomaggiore by boat we were able to see some dolphins in the sea. Happy moment! :)

Having spent a lot of time in Portovenere, we unfortunately didn't have much time to spare in Riomaggiore, so we just walked around a bit, took some pictures and of course we had to check for the famous Via dell' amore. Even though I had done my research before and therefore knew that it was closed, we tried to find it. It couldn't hurt to check, right?! I really would have loved to walk there, but - as expected - it was closed.Read more

    Portovenere

    June 1, 2015 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Next we walked back through town to the church St. Pietro, which is the first church that I saw having a balcony. From there we also had great views and we were able to see the church being prepared for a wedding that evening. (What a place to get married, wow!)

After having spent way more time in beautiful Portovenere than we had planned before, we made our way back to the harbour to catch the next boat to Riomaggiore. :)

    Portovenere

    June 1, 2015 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

From the fortress we had a wonderful view down to the church St. Pietro and Palmaria island. A perfect place to have a rest - and a picnic. When we walked around the fortress, we discovered the ruins and perfectly conversed stonewall window. So we did a bit of climbing to get there - of course we had to look through that window. :)Read more

    Portovenere

    June 1, 2015 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Portovenere was wonderful. We arrived with the boat and the first thing we saw were the beautiful, colorful houses in the harbour. What a view! :)

As always, we decided to walk "up" to get a view, so we walked through the pretty narrow streets of the town to the church St. Lorenzo, where we lit candles for Opa and Oma Otti, and from there to the fortress.Read more

    La Spezia

    June 1, 2015 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

With only one day left we weren't sure what to do. While my husband thought we had not relaxed enough, I was eager to visit the Cinque Terre again so see the villages we weren't able to see the other day.

With the help of our dear waitress Gemma eventually I won - and we went on the road again. Yay! On the train to La Spezia we decided to do a different route this time, so when arrived in La Spezia we went through town to the port and took a boat to take us to Portovenere. :)

    Lucca

    May 30, 2015 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Lucca - another (unexpected) highlight of our journey. We had only half a day of time left and decided to visit Lucca. Best decision ever! :)

We got out of the train, walked towards the city center and once we made it to the antique city wall, we loved the city. Somehow Lucca had a very relaxed feeling to it and we enjoyed a great time there. We walked around on the wall and also in the city center and someow got beautifully lost. We saw lots of cute shops and restaurants and eventually made it to the Piazza dell' Anfiteatro.

While Pisa was just not very pretty and Florence was too crowded for us - Lucca was perfect. It was VERY pretty and it was not like there weren't other people, but it was a completely different atmosphere. People weren't as hectic and hurried as in the city of Florence..

Anyway, Lucca was really nice overall, ,we had a great time. The only things I regret is 1) we should have had way more time - and 2) we should have gone to one of the towers to get an overview over this beautiful city. But hey, we'll make it up next time, because we - or I - will definitely be back! :)

    Viareggio Beach

    May 29, 2015 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

The next day we decided to head to the beach. By train we went to Viareggio and then probably went a wrong way, because we walked through town for about an hour, until we finally came to the beach, lol. Anyway, a day at the beach is always a good idea. :)Read more

    Manarola

    May 28, 2015 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Our next stop was Manarola - what a charming little town! We went there from Vernazza by train. and - again - had a great time. Again we strolled through the streets and to the walk that leads to a small viewpoint. From there you get a wonderful view to the town in all its colors and also to the sea! <3

Sadly this was our last stop in the fabulous Cinque Terre. So happy we made it here. :)

    Vernazza

    May 28, 2015 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

And this is how Vernazza looks up close. We had a short but great time there. We strolled through the streets, had a snack and listened to an amazing musician singing Nirvana songs. Then we went through a channel beneath the rocks and houses to the small beach and had a short rest, before the journey continued. We loved Vernazza. <3Read more
