Cascais (north of Lisbon)

Charming little resort on the coast. Beautiful by the sea but a bit touristy further back with plenty of "pubs" etc. Property prices here similar to Cote d'Azure.

The name "Óbidos" is a Latinised (oppidum, citadel) derivation of the older Celtic "Eburobricio". The municipality had its growth from a Roman settlement near the foothills of an elevated Czytaj więcej
According to the Legend of Nazaré, the town derives its name from a small wooden statue of the Virgin Mary, a Black Madonna, brought by a monk in the 4th century from Nazareth,. Today it is a Czytaj więcej
We were somewhat surprised to find a Banksy exhibition here. Went to a craft market and a flea market but all we got were fleas ...the statue is very symbolic and is dedicated to the heroes of the Czytaj więcej
We have done very well with the weather. Sunny but cold and a bit windy at times.
Mixed feelings about Porto. There are some very nice buildings spread out over a large area. And it is very up and down. The public transport is excellent and a great way of getting around.
Small industrial & fishing harbour north of Porto and along the Atlantic coast. Funny mixture of old and run down and new. Easy reach of Porto by bus or metro.
Amongst other things, a brilliant exhibition of the work of Joana Vasconcelos. A lot of her work is large and kinetic so photos do not do it justice.
Amazing terracing and very picturesque valley. Perfect for tasting port!

The Citadel. Inside it's al very modern architecture, an art centre, smart homes, galleries, restaurants; an imaginative use of an old building.
