  • Still here!

    June 19, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 63 °F

Well, didn’t make the flight. It showed 28 open seats and 7 standbys last night, but this is the non-rev life! No seats open today, yet they managed to put put on 17 standbys! Many people no-showed due to long lines at check-in and security… and I was next on the list for a seat! The agent was kind enough to get me put on the list for the next AMS flight at 6:05pm. Just a short 4 1/2 hours from now. 😏🤷🏻‍♀️😆 Keep smiling!Read more

  • No luck!

    June 19, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 63 °F

So no luck today. Two Amsterdam and two London flights later… I’m headed home and coming up with my game plan for tomorrow!

  • Back again!

    June 20, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 50 °F

What am I doing back here so soon?! 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’ve decided that getting out of Seattle is my best bet today. Gonna try some flights out of Newark. So this flight with 13 open seats, where my seniority counts for something and I’m number 1 on stand-by list… that’s what I’m doing here! 😆Read more

  • Try, try, try again!

    June 20, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 73 °F

Why do all security lines say approximately 10 minutes? More like 45 minutes add 10 minutes! I’ve got three flights in my sites for tonight to Porto and Lisbon. Unfortunately, two of them are on two different airlines in two different terminals, and only one hour apart… Methinks that’s not going to happen! So, I’m begging agents for an idea of how possible/probable it is that I’ll make the flight so I can decide which one to standby for. It appears like my first and best option right now is United! 🤞 7 open seats and 7 Stand-bys !😬Read more

  • No words…i can’t

    June 21, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 64 °F

So I didn’t make the flight. The agents even told me I had a seat, but someone had been mis -ticketed and at the last minute they added them to the flight. I’m exhausted…frustrated. I’ve never had such a difficult non-reving experience as the last two days, in my life. Headed to a hotel and, after some sleep I’ll re-group and decide what to do from here.Read more

  • A new day to find a way!

    June 21, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 70 °F

I’m not gonna lie, I shed some tears on my way to a hotel last night. I was so disappointed. I never imagined that the hardest part of the Camino was going to be getting there! But with the morning, I feel my families love and prayers, I have hope and I’m determined to be thankful no matter the circumstances! I have 4 flights on my radar, loads are no better than yesterday, but… 🤷🏻‍♀️ one can only try!Read more

  • New York to Lisbon!!!

    June 21, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 72 °F

It is a much better day today! My first flight did not look promising, but here I am! Aisle seat, with a pillow and a blanket on TAP airlines! Finally leaving the States and destined for Portugal! So thankful right now!Read more

  • A moment in Lisbon for breakfast!

    June 22, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

There’s just enough time to navigate this huge airport and get breakfast before boarding my Porto flight! (assuming I get on, of course 😆) Breakfast at bedtime! Mmmm, quiche lorraine!

  • At last…Last flight!

    June 22, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 64 °F

I’ve made it onto my last flight! The Lisbon airport is so big and so many aircraft, they have to bus you to most flights! This has been a…memorable…journey! Porto here I come… see you soon Andrea!

  • I’m Here!!!

    June 22, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

So happy! Porto countryside looked beautiful and green as we landed. The airport is much smaller and to my liking! I got some Euros at the cash machine and bought a yummy strawberry energy drink at Starbucks while listening the cashier sing along to Britney Spears “oops I did it again”! 🤣 I also spotted the pastry that has been recommended over and over, but my stomach is not ready for that yet! Im off to find the metro to the city and then Andrea!Read more

  • Found Andrea!

    June 22, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 73 °F

I made it to the Airbnb just in time to check-out! 😆 Andrea booked us another night somewhere, since I’m a tad late getting to Porto! We have to kill a few hours before we check into our new place. So time for a walk and maybe some lunch next to the river!Read more

  • That was a good first day!

    June 22, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 70 °F

It’s hard to believe I’ve barely been here a day! Andrea found a cute courtyard place for dinner that was a bit hidden away from the hustle and bustle! After that we walked around a bit more. I tried my first Pastel de Nada, today! Yum! Tomorrow we begin our Camino! We walk towards where the sun sets this evening! Boa Noite!Read more

  • Matosinhos… or…

    June 23, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 79 °F

We’ve arrive in Matosinhos! 7.5 miles! This was our planned first stop, but we both feel we have more in us and our curiosity is taking us forward! Where we will end our day?… who knows!

  • Lunch at Aldea Nova Perafita

    June 23, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

Taking a lunch break now at a beach restaurant. Bacon, egg and cheese sandwich and berry iced tea. Feet are a bit more tired, but definitely doing better than I anticipated! We have determined to walk to the next alburgue in Labruge!Read more

  • Labruge and our first alburgue!

    June 23, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

We walked SO much farther than we had anticipated! 17 miles according to my pedometer! Definitely tired, but feeling accomplished! The coast was gorgeous! After Matasinhos it was miles and miles of boardwalk and beach! The sea wind in our face kept us cool on this hot day! So far, very greatful for the items I’ve packed with me! Impressed with the Lush shampoo bar! Going to use my Sea to Summit sleep sack tonight! 👏👏👏Read more

  • On the trail again!

    June 24, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 68 °F

It was a good night… but would have been a bit better if not for fireworks and hard mattress. But what can you ask for for 10 euros? My clothes that I washed the night before were still a bit damp, but not too wet to pack up. The first part of our walk today was some of my favorite. Labruge to Vila Cha! Beautiful coast line and quaint village! Not much breeze today. 🥵 Some parts of the boardwalk are out and we walked on sand… even more work! My feet are absolutely more tired and, after 6 miles, I was very ready for our first break for coffee, croissant and more water!Read more

  • On our way to Rates

    June 24, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 82 °F

We’ve decided our next stop is Rates! Andrea called ahead and the alburgue says they have plenty of beds available! We chose a path to the central that seems to be less traveled. You really have to keep your eye peeled for the Camino signs as they can be placed in odd places and can just be a very faded arrow! Sometimes, you just use your best judgement when you come to an intersection! I’ve loved the change of scene from the coast to more farmland and beautiful gardens!Read more

  • A lunch break!

    June 24, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

Andra and I both agree that we like this part of the walk even better than yesterday! Yes, we are more tired and more hot, but on this route you never know what’s around the corner! There’s a lot of walking on narrow roads with stone walls and watching for Camino signs is a bit of a “Where’s Waldo” game! Excuse me while I go eat more carbs now!Read more
