Old Pasadena

Went on a walking tour of Old Pasadena. Saw several bungalow courts on the national register of historic places.
San Dimas

Toured Old Town San Dimas. Saw Walker House, an old railroad hotel, which has been converted into a restaurant. Also toured the town's old Sante Fe railroad depot, now a train museum.
La Verne

Had an adventure here. Our guidebook said we could go on a walking tour of the area's "Old Town". We could get the tour map from the local chamber of commerce. Only problem was they had no idea about Czytaj więcej

Wigwam Village Motel

Last night we stayed in a concrete teepee at Wigwam Village Motel.
San Bernardino National Forest

Today we took a side trip off the route and went to San Bernardino National Forest, where we hiked the Alpine Pedal Path.

Main Street Murals

We started out the day by doing a walking tour of the last remaining "Main Street" on the route. The town commissioned a series of murals highlighting the history of the area.
Desert Discovery Center

We took a short side trip to see the "Old Woman Meteorite", the second largest meteorite in the US. We also got to see their resident animals, including a desert tortoise and a toad.
Bagdad Cafe

We had lunch at the Bagdad Cafe, which was made famous by the 1987 movie of the same name. The place is plastered with souvenirs from the tourists who have visited.
Joshua Tree National Park

We finished the day with a visit to Joshua Tree National Park. With temperatures pushing 115 degrees, we opted to drive through the park instead of hike.
Amboy, CA

We left 29 Palms (Joshua Tree National Park) and made our way back to Amboy, where we saw the remains of Roy's Motel Cafe.
Mojave Desert National Preserve

We then continued on route 66 before taking another side trip to the Mojave Desert National Preserve. Temperature's were in the 100s, so we drove through the park. We also stopped at Kelso Station Czytaj więcej
Powerhouse Route 66 Museum

This morning we went to the Powerhouse Route 66 Museum in Kingman. It provided power to the area prior to the opening of the Hoover Dam in the 1930s. We saw displays on the history of the area, as Czytaj więcej
Chloride, Arizona

We took a detour from the route to visit the town of Chloride, Arizona. The town has a reproduction "ghost town" from the wild west era.
Hoover Dam

We then traveled up to Nevada to tour the Hoover Dam. There we saw the dam's power plant and walked across to the Arizona side.
Burma-Shave

Back on Route 66 we saw a series of roadside "Burma-Shave" signs, which were popular in the 1940s and 1950s.
Route Highlights

A few highlights from today's drive on the route: a water tower and historic pickup in Kingman, and classic vehicles outside Hackberry General Store.
Grand Canyon National Park

Today we went to the Grand Canyon. There are no words to explain how amazing the views are there. We started the day by taking a Pink Jeep tour of the South Rim.

We saw a variety of wildlife during our time in the park.
Montezuma Castle National Monument

We started out today by taking a side trip to Montezuma Castle. It's just a short ride south from Flagstaff. There we saw the remains of cliff dwellings used by the Sinagua more than 500 years ago.
Lowell Observatory

We then returned to Flagstaff, where we toured the Lowell Observatory. Pluto was discovered here back in 1930. Although no longer in use, we got to see the telescope that played a role in the Czytaj więcej
Sunset Crater Volcano National Park

We then stopped at the Sunset Crater before continuing on Route 66 to Winslow. The crater is the remnants of a volcanic eruption in 1085.
